Haven't had an opportunity to use the 6545 in a LOONG while - gotta play 'clean', lots of backlined AC30's and occassionally the Maz Sr 212 would come along for the bus ride.
Doing some local stuff and just plugged the PRS into the 6545 thru the 112 w/a Silver Bell Alnico. Holy sweet-lovin' MOLY!
This has to be the coolest rock amp EVER!
It's new country (a.k.a. rock) - the 45 side has just a bit of grit (roll off the volume for clean) and kick in a drive for some 'tame' leads. The 65 side is just KILLIN' me with tone! I've liked it, but I wasn't this blown away! Amazing crunch tone for rhythm and kick in a little OCD (set for volume boost with just barely any gain) and OMG!!!
I WANNA PLAY IN A ROCK BAND NOW!!! Like RIGHT NOW!! THIS SECOND!!
wow...
Ok...back to playing...

I'm about to order a ghia in like 12 hours and ya go and do this. Between you and jgleaton your killin me! RX ES Jr, 6545 man I need to get a second job. How does this amp take pedals? I assume just as well as the rest of the Z line up. Is the 65 side more or less a "800"?

I'm seriously considering ditching the purchase of a RXjr for a 6545... I DO play in rock bands, 5 of em, I'm just not sure I'd get the volume where it needs to be in all these small clubs. However, i do have an airbrake and I've taken to using it again in this one particular club we play every Sat night. Everytime it fills up jam packed with people I can open the 66 up to anywhere I want, thanks to my inefficient Ulbrick 1-12. But as soon as the crowd thins, (like when everyone goes out for a smoke* or a mystery tour bus leaves) I am suddenly too loud. Now I set the airbrake up, start with it on two, turn it off when the joint fills up and then click it back when it thins a little. Works a treat *No smoking is allowed inside any Tasmanian clubs or pubs..yah!
Not sure but I imagine the 6545 to be a bit louder than the 66 and my 1-12 is rated at a very tough 35 watts. Dave tells me people play his 50 watt Arena head through it wound right up with no failures but...
However the RXjr is probably the amp I "should" get right now.

Sorry.... 65 side can do a really nice Plexi tone as well as the JCM 800 thing - depends on the speaker and where you have the gain. Alnico w/the gain between 9-10 is just this delicious plexi tone - warm, crunch, smooth...ahhhh. Plug the head into a Z-best type cab (V30/G12H30), roll up the gain and it's square in the JCM 800 camp. Oh, and it does quite nicely w/pedals - as all Z's seem to...although you don't really need anything but maybe a boost of some sort for leads on each channel. Quite a beastly lil' head. Glad I'm getting it out a bit...

I dunno, but I'd put the R66 pretty close to the 6545 re: volume - I know the 6545's louder, but the db difference vs the power difference isn't that much. That said, I ran the 66 wide open (everything between 1-3:00) and I'm not blasting the 6545 - 45 Volume is about 1:30 and the Master on the 65 is 12:00...just to where everything is getting a very faint clip w/humbuckers playing lightly - hit it hard for more grit, roll down the volume for cleaner tones. Oof, it's LATE! Wasn't paying attention to the time...yikes

Man, that sounds good. That's just the way I like setting up. I think this amp would work well for the "Police" thing I do. 45 side for the really clean tunes like "Walkin' on the Moon" and the 65 side for the earlier more punky fast tempo tunes like Fallout, Truth Hits Everybody, Next To You, etc etc. I gotta be careful here Dan, you and I are both talking me into this amp! ;D

I gotta be careful here Dan, you and I are both talking me into this amp! ;D I hear ya Taz, I've wanted a 6545 for a while now. But I've wanted a Ghia even longer. I think I'm gonna go cal Willcutt's now ;D Thanks for the info Dan, it sounds like a 6545 could keep my Marshall Silver Anniversary at home and in the studio, which I would prefer. And it would be more versatile by far than the Marshall too.

Love mine too. I run the 65 side with gain at 12:00 and Master at 1:00 and can get almost any sound I want using the guitar volume control. For the 45 side I like all controls at 2:00. Cleans up nice with the guitar volume and has a nice fatness to the sound too. Running this way I can go from clean to blues to anything from AC/DC to that little ole band from texas.

Ok, I'm officially banning myself from this thread and section ;D Ya know, Tas, I actually think the 6545 came across quieter than the R66 - mostly because the tone/attack of the amp is different. R66 has a bigger mid to it. But, again, I only ran the 6545 where both sides were just clipping a bit w/humbuckers and a hard strum. Did the show switching channels and using either an OCD or RC booster for lead boost. Sounded unbelievable w/slide too...creamy/smooth. Good lord, I need another gig now - want to hear this thing at gig level again!!!

Those are sweet tubes!! I have been running NOS Siemens 6CA7s myself and just love the tone. Would love some Tesla NOS EL34 tubes though too.
Such a sweet articulate grind from one amp should be criminal. And to think that the KT-45 side is available too makes it even more of a killer.

So I went to 'jam' with some friends last night. Plugged the 6545 into one of the Mesa 412 cabs (w/V30's) they had handy. Haven't heard that Z head thru a closed back 412 cab...let alone something that deeply voiced. Good grief it was ridiculous! 6545 was more than keeping up with the Mesa Triple Rectifier head the other player was using. Only pedal I used was an OCD for a bit more grit/gain on leads. Used a PRS Standard 22 and an old Ibanez RG 565. Somewhere between modern rock tones and good ol' weedly-weedly 80's hair metal. I think I need a 412!!
