Went over to a bud's place last night to show him my Stingray and brought along the 6545. He has four Z amps there, and I wanted to listen to them, but I also wanted to try my 6545 on his 4x10 Z's. He actually has a Z-28 in a 4x10 cab - sounds pretty amazing. I tried the 6545 on there, and also on a set of 2 Weber Thames Alnicos he has in his Maz 38.
Short story - those tens were nothing short of amazing! I've been struggling with the KT-45 side for the right top end tone - even tried a mod the doc suggested, but nothing was working. But when I hooked it to those tens, holy moley! The KT-45 side was rivaling the Stingray in top end chime! Think I've found my cab - either the 4x10 or a 2x10 (or maybe two 2x10's). And of course the SRZ-65 side smoked as usual. Very cool!
It was very interesting swapping over to the 2x12 Thames speakers - not as bright, and WAY not as loud! Those 10's are considerably more efficient. Not that I need that with the 6545, but it is an interesting data point nonetheless. I think on his Z-28 that efficiency really makes that amp sound like about 45 watts or so. Very loud!
Fascinating stuff...

Benttop,
Glad you found a sound you like with the 6545. I love the Alnico Thames 12" Speakers, but have not tried a 2x10 or 4x10 with it. Nice review and look forward to hearing some sound clips once you get your cab with 10s in it.

I tried my 6545 through my mazjr's 210's and it sounds great. Saving money for a Z 210 ext cab to use with my 6545 and under the mazjr. I wonder if the Dr's 10's sound different with the sunken baffle/lens thing on the 210 ext cab., supposed to make them sound bigger.

Well I'm fixing to find out here. I really like the idea of the 2x10 simply because I can stack it on top of my 2x12 cab and stack both heads on top of that, and not take up the whole stage. I think that would work pretty nice for what I do. And the KT-45 side is quite a lot cleaner than the Stingray, so I would have pristine clean, Stingray crunch, and SRV-65 smoking lead all on tap. Whoa!

What other speakers are good with the 6545? I have 2 1x12 cabs - an Avatar partial-open back with a Weber ceramic 50W Blue Dog and an EarCandy front ported with a Texas Heat. I didn't think these would be that great with the 6545, but it actually sounds pretty good. I've also been thinking about getting a alnico Silver Bell to mix with the Blue Dog.

I wish I had a 1x12 cab here that I could try the new Celestion Alnico Gold. I'm thinking that would sound amazing for the KT-45. I'm not sure on the SRZ-65 side though, but mudskipper is using his Gold with a November which is a very Marshally tone, and he loves it. The Gold coming on line is about the only thing that might stop me from getting the tens - but I see in that one pic that the Doc is already loading Golds into cabs, so I imagine I could order one that way. A Z 1x12 with a Gold couldn't be wrong, could it? Then I start thinking about two Golds in a cab the same build as my open back Z cab with the blues - oh baby, now I'm starting to get nervous... ;D

I've been primarily using a partial open-back avatar 4x10 cabinet with Eminence RamRods. I'm primarily on the 65 side, and it sounds just incredible. Has a nice dark british sound to it, but definitely with a lot of texture and depth. Really great tone. The 45 side gets little use, and I find to be pretty sharp, tight, and much like a highwatt with a closed back cab. Not exactly the shimmer that my Mazerati had. Dont' think I've found a magic spot for the 45 side, but that doesn't matter, it's servicable for clean parts, and the 65 side just kills it with this cabinet.
