Tried some tube swapping in my 6545 trying to see what kinds of sounds I could get out of the 65 side. Two variations seemed to work well for me. Leaving the 2 el34ls #6 and 12ax7lps PI in. Kinda hard to describe tone, so I tried to match up the tones with a relative sounding amp.
1. I used a GT5ar4, sovtek 12ax7wxt for V1 and JJ ECC83 for V2 - marshally JCM800 A lil thicker/soupy/gritty overdrive
2. GT SS 5ar4 plug in, JJ ECC803s for V1 and V2 - hiwattish custom 50 A lil tighter, more articulate, cleaner overdrive
I was surprised to find the 45 side sounded slightly better with the tube rectifier, a lil more rounded open sound, with the SS rectifier it sounded a touch stale.
Anyone know a good website that would explain the differences in preamp tubes (ex: 12ax7/12ax7a/12ax7wa/12ax7wxt/12ax7lps/ECC83/ECC803s) and how it could affect the sound of the amp?
