Howdy to you all - I've got a "new guy" question. Your help would be much appreciated. Here's the deal: I love the Mazerati GT tone and the "fire" that the amp has. Very much in my style of playing - hot, with sparks... Which "other" Dr Z amp (if any) can get this same "intensity" with just a little bit more control of the overall volume? Would the MONZA with a good O/D pedal get me into this territory? Maybe the GHIA, as I've read here that there are some similarities in the tone of these two amps? I have 2 pedalboards to work with now, so there are a lot of possibilities for me to add or subtract heat. And I'm able to play at a good volume without raising complaints from the neighborhood. So (in my case) attenuation is "an option"... <--sweet Clean isn't as important as mean, in this case... Thanks guys, very much tom (tbird)

Thanks Jimmy - I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. Your video with the GT & 4x10 is what fueled my question. I have a RIVERA Venus 3 (15w/2x 6v6) with a boost - that gets me that sweet 6v6 crunch while still giving me a M/V. But the Remedy was on my list when all this began. Thanks for the suggestion though. I like lots of gain, but a little more than "full on" from the start would be more useable to my situation. HEAVY attenuation is not my thing. Perhaps the GHIA w/pedals and my Reinhardt amp for gain would be better. Hum... thanks

i really hate attenuators,,too,, and i stopped using it,, i have owned 3 ghias over the years and for an extra hunnerd bucks or so,, (1149?) i think i would buy the monza,,, by the way i once owned a blond rivera jake (non reverb model),, another amp i should have held on to,,,

I have both the Remedy and the Monza - go for the Remedy, trust me (now maybe it's the 4x12 cab it's going through though).

all good advice. Also something to throw at ya, the SRZ or 6545 have MV's that work well and can get pretty mean. Especially if you push the preamp and output tubes. And they can get plenty loud if needed. There is a 6545 up for sale for a righteous price! It's listed in the 6545 amp page.

My SRZ-65 is better sounding and better built than a Marshall JCM 800, and it is very controllable w/ it's MV. Check out the SRZ video on the Dr. Z web site. If you're worried about the wattage, another possibility would be the RXJr. It gets some pretty hopped up tones, and in my opinion has the best MV of the whole Z line. Steve (bentop) has some great sound clips of the RXJr in the Audio section of the Forum. As for the GT, it's one of my favorites. I do use it, however, with an Air Brake. The Bedroom option makes it manageable for home playing, but only barely so. I can't fire that beast up if the kids are heading to bed. But at band rehearsal, or at a gig, there is nothing like the GT's TONE.

Good Choice Tom. It's a great amp and the NR has a bit more fire than the reverb model. And if I recall correctly, there is a mod that will by pass the tone stack and provide even more fire...

Thanks Drew - It took many hours of serious consideration before choosing the Jr. NR (w/mod). I'm comfortable with my decision, and I'm already looking towards Z #2 in August... Your happiness with the StangRay is very inspiring. I'm thinking the Maz Jr. NR for my Strat tones, and the "RAY" (or GT) for the tele side of my diet... The guitar of Bill Kirchen is a way huge influence on me - ever since my 1st "Commander Cody" show in 1970. So a "dedicated" tele amp (the BEST) is for sure next... see ya tom

And even though the Mazerati GT isn't a clean country amp - I still like it... I think I could live with it, but the volume might be difficult to master...t
