I have one of the older style Dr Z 1x12 cabinets with a celestion vintage 30 in it. I am looking to upgrade the speaker but don't know what to put in it. I play mainly blues and country with the occasional rock stuff. I only play single coils (strats and teles). I run it through an EZG 50 head and also have a old style 2x10 cabinet that I run at the same time with it. Any ideas?

I've heard doc say that he really likes the G1265 with the EZG50. I think that is what he puts in his combo amps. I liked that combination pretty well. I have found that the G1265 is a very warm sounding speaker. If you want any sparkly cleans out of it that may not be the best speaker, but it is good for blues.

I have a Dr. Z 1x12 convertible cabinet with a G12-65 speaker in it. Sounds pretty good, but not my favorite. I much prefer a Z-Best or an Orange 4x12 cabinet, as I have mentioned before in a couple other threads. The EZG-50 (just like the SRZ-65 now that I think of it) seems to sound better to me through multiple speakers and with some degree of headroom.
Again, the G12-65 is OK, just not GREAT. To my ears at least. I would like to try the EZG-50 with some other speakers. Perhaps a Celestion Gold 50 watt or a Celestion G12-75 or for (perhaps) a more Fender-ish tone, a Jensen P12 NB.

It might be my cabinet, but i use a single celestion 12-65 and i can get a very sparkly clean sound. as a matter of fact i never used my treble control past 9:30 10 o´clock. that would be with my strat and tele loaded with lollar pups.... might be different with humbuckers.

Another thought- since the EZG is bass heavy, you might want to try a complimentary speaker that has a little less solid bass response. Normally, that might seem strange, but since I cut the bass through a G12-65 anyway, why not try a less "bassy" speaker.
I don't know which one would be ideal...maybe someone else here has a thought on that.
