Here is my issue...
I have a 2x12 Boogie cab and am trying to decide if I need to upgrade. I can load it with golds for around $400 new. There seems to be a decent amount of hype regarding the alnico speakers. I was just wondering if any of it was true. Someone else here said that the classic lead 80's were great also. I just want to know who uses what and if it is worth the trouble.
Thanks in advance. Mike

My favorite speaker w/ my SRZ is the Celestion Heritage G12-65 in a Z Convertible Cab. My runner-up would be a toss-up between my Celestion Gold in a Z Convertible Cab or a pair of Weber Greenback type speakers in an Avatar 2X12.
My SRZ also likes my Avatar 2X12 w/ Celestion G12H30s and my Z Convertible Cab w/ Z's 2X10s. The Celestion Vin 30 sounded pretty good in my Convertibles too.
Pretty much the only speakers I don't like w/ the SRZ are my Weber AlNiCo Blue Pups. They are undoped and can't hold up the low end under distortion.
I wouldn't go modifying your Mesa 2X12 w/ Vin 30s until you hear that amp through it. Mesa makes a pretty good cab, and the SRZ sounds pretty good w/ Vin 30s.

I second the g1265. I like it in the convertible cab with the back on. I don't like it as much with the back off. That head and cab pack a lot of punch.

My SRZ LOVES Greenbacks also My Mojo tones which are the same as a Greenback but have a Higher DB and sound a Lil warmer. The GOLD KICKS A$$ but with a Partial or open Cab. The Lead 80's are great I know this cause I recently sold 4 of them which were Boogie labeled based on the lead 80. The SRZ also sounds Mighty Good with my Original EVM/L's they deliver top to bottom open/closed. I haven't been using my Boogie 4x12 custom cab lately and I sold my 4x12 Greenback loaded Marshall, I'm getting just as huge sounds with less space and work out of a 1x12 and 2x12 cabs these days. Yeah Yeah, Bentop Steve has rubbed off on me and I am getting old. Hands down my Z 2x12 semi open with my Gold which had Ted Weber treatment light doping, coupled with the G12H30 Is the Holy grail, I sometimes run a Redfang in place of the gold just so it gets used equally another great USA Made Speaker REDFANGS are KILLER! Bottom line you have the Best Z amp made!!! It will be killer with almost any speaker! Good luck hope you find something you like!

So after some thought, I ended up with the 70th anniversary Celestions. Very awesome. Thanks for the input. I was shocked how much of a difference they made.

Is it safe to run a celestion blue and a g12h30 together ? I just picked up a srz today and have a 212 open cab with these two speakers for my ray , I know you can't run the blue alone. I also have a opn back 112 with a hellatone 30. What should I do?

The Golds are KIller with anything however do yourself a Favor and Just Buy 1 gold, and match the other with a Ceramic of some kind, The Mojotone speakrs are Just AMAZING for the $! Hard to beat like a DrZ amp! What sound are going for? If your gonna do everything 2- GH30's or 2- Greenbacks will cover great! The Alnicos In my exp have not sounded good in a Closed Cab! However my 2x12 Z cab has a Gold and a Mojo GH30! amazing tones from semi clean to fulll on Rock Gain! The lead 80 has that scooped mid tone, the SRZ has enough cooped mids to my ears, the SRZ sounds BAD A$$ with any speaker The End, Jamie ;D

that only gives you a 30 watt Cab, I wouldn't risk it, The SRZ can mean and LOUD Quick and not worth buying another Blue at $225.00 EXCELLENT CHOICE for the Ray though. I use to use that same 2x12 config, but now running with the GOLD! Its killer Congrats on the SRZ by th eway!!! jamie

I've heard alot about the stock Z best with the SRZ..Would a Z 2x10 with a 1x12 Gh30 work..I was actually thinking about either a V30 cab or just go all the way and buy a Z best.
I have a spilt 1x12 & 1x12 each with a Blue for my Ray..I can't imagine anything else. I also Like My Monza with my h30..and the 2x10..My Maz I am using a blue and H30 ..
Now you have me thinking I need to go buy completely new speakers for the SRZ. If I buy another cab should I get one with a V30 ..If I don't like it get a 65 or a gold to try instead..
I guess it's like anything else I need to play around.. For example..I really like the different tone from the Ray while using my 2x10's or by replacing the Blue with Gh30..
Your right depends on what your playing..It's just getting crowded and bright with all this Red Z stuff..

I have never tried the G12-65? I do have an old Rola Celestion G12-80 from the early 70's and its AMAZING! Yes you're gonna have to couple to Gh 30's or yes a1x12 w/ a V30 would be fine, however the V30 gets a bad Rap due to people wont give them a chance to break in? It's the Rock-nRoll Standard! Speaker, so give it a good 40-50 hrs of breakin before you decide on chucking it. Check out Mojotone.com and look into their speakers they are AWESOME! 2- 12GH30's would sound like the Holy Grail of rock to country! Its a very Good speaker From Bass to Highs, IMHO! You own a Monza! too! is it the one that was on the BST in RED a Head? That will collect Dust now you have the SRZ, Let me know if you decide to sell? I was gonna buy but I think you beat me to it The SRZ is the Big Boy , I hope you have ampl room to turn it up. My little room is like 12x12.?? It is deafening at 3 with the gain not even half way up ;D, Keep posting!

Jamie, thanks again for info on speakers with '65 ..... my limited play-time over the past coupla years has left me with some pretty strong impressions (and g.a.s.) ..... never mind hearin' various folks rockin' the house at the past few Zfests .... and everytime I drop-in to the '65 section it don't make things much easier for me ..... even though I do realize the '65 is way more fire-power than I need at this point in life, I still got it high on the ol' lust-list ..... ;D so, matched with a well-beaten V30 it will work nice? hmmm ..... cheers always, eh Joel

A pair of Greenbacks sound excellent.
Also, I like 4 Vintage 30's in a 4x12...but that is a lot of wood to move around.

Left my self and area that's 18 wide -about 24 long. With a big walk in area behind that so it's closer to 36 long and 26 wide. My basement walls have insulation blown in the blocks . All I 'm waitng on is the carpet guys. They should be here before the SRZ is.
