Hey Groover, I was going to try to email you as we were going up to visit my sister in Sept for a holiday, but we might be throwing it into my "thing" instead and having a less expensive celebration down here. Me and my lovely girl have been together ten years... Sure would love to hear a Ghia though. And I maybe could have brought the 66 for you to check out in gigland if you had one. Anyway, I'll let you know via here or ebay or something. Cheers.

Taz, thanks for such a thorough and descriptive review! A solid contribution to the best tone-journalism on this site.

taz strikes again! i just need to tell everyone. a while back a fellow forum brother played me a clip of taz playing a route66 and z-best cab. blew me away. i bought the amp without ever playing one. love the amp, its everything you've heard about it and more. fast forward to today. i play a friends z-28 who is selling it. love the amp. didn't even want to! i can't afford anything right now! i decide to read up on Z28's. i notice this thread, by taz. of course i had to read it. what do you think i'm gonna do. thanks again taz! ;D great review by the way. i didn't get to play the 28 for as long as i would have liked, but for a guy who already owns a 66, it pretty much told me all i needed to know. im screwed.

Ha, I forgot about this post. Re-read it. And all sounds correct to me still. Except anything about the 4-10 cab is false as we found out later one of the speakers wasn't working, hence the big difference in volume between the 4-10 and Z-Best. Somewhere I also talk about gigging the Z28 in the original band which is much louder. I actually had it cranked and ran outta headroom with the Z best. Plugged the 66 in for the third set and "only" managed to get it to 12 oclock, which gives you a little idea in the volume difference. Not much side by side but in gigland a little is a lot. The Z28 also doesn't have the girth or the...forgive me can't think of a good adjective...whomp and growl, big bottle throw of the 66. GrooverGeorges' sounded great through his pre-rola greenie. Very friendly small club volume. Although the inefficient speaker also rolls off a little of that sparkle and it sounded best cranked up around 3 oclock compared to the Z- Best which gives great tone at just about any volume. The greenie is a great tone though.

I'd like to hear the Z-28 through a Celestion gold, I think that could be an interesting tone as well.

played Z28 yesterday through z-best w/greenies. sounded great.
that cab also sounded great with the rt66.
it also handled, and sounded great w/my srz65.
the funny thing is i have yet to play a z-best with the stock speakers.
i have a v30 & g12h sitting on my bench at work. just lazy i guess.
the Z28 may be a great solution for me as far as volume goes, and playing at home. it has versatility and some similarities to the 66. yet of course it has its own character.
never owned a 6v6 amp before. it is a pretty addictive tone.
