Have you ever tried a Z-Best, but situated vertically? When both speakers are coupled with the ground, then it's bassier...however, I assure you it can be tonal bliss, one speaker atop the other. Nah, There is a store that used to be a Z dealer down here in Lauderdale that still has one left over but they still are unwilling to deal on it. If they had two I would try harder to make a deal with my mint EVH cab for both of them only so I could point them in different directions to get my dual 5 watts to spread out more.

Only because I love mine so much, I'd like to recommend the Mesa/Boogie Thiele ported 1x12 cabs. My old "metal" rig incorporates 2 of them running in stereo and they are gorgeous. I have recently acquired a MAZ18R head which is wonderful into these cabs. (200watt EVM12L spkrs). Z-Best 2x12 on order still.
Anyway, if you manage to find one, its worth considering. There is also "Boogafunk" stuff on ebay. Finished or unfinished and you can load it with whatever speaker you choose.
Just more options.
Take it easy!
Matt

I haven't had time to read the whole thread, so forgive me if this has been covered. I have a g1265 in a 1x12 cab and I think the G1265 likes to be in a closed back cab much better than an open back cab, just my personal observation. You may want to do a gig or two with the back on.
Just a thought.

A sweet looking 1x12 cabinet that is supposed to be excellent is the Reeves R1 1x12 cabinet, which you could load with a "Vintage Purple" Speaker (Fane clone). That ought to just about be the perfect match for a Remedy. Now I want one.
You might also try the Bogner Cube. That thing is tiny and still sounds quite good.
But really, nothing is wrong with the Dr. Z convertible 1x12 cab- it sounds good and is light weight too. I think the guitar/pedal/amp combination and the affects of the venue (size of stage, reflections, stage monitors) can make or break the tone as much as the speaker choice, and all the components need to be examined equally...Cheers.

I own jimfogs Remedy now and I am absolutley loving it. I am playing it through a 1 x 12 open back with a gold in it. I didnt find it to be bright at all I actually run the high at about 2 0'clock and the normal around 11 0'clock and I generally go for a darker type of tone. To my ear it achieved the darker tone much easier than my maz jr did. Also plenty of Bass through the gold as well even in an open back. One thing I did notice is that when i recieved the amp not sure if this is how jimfog actually had it set up but the mid was cranked up all the way. I noticed that if the mids are up on this amp it is overbearingly muddy. I dialed my mids back to about 10:30 and put the treble at about noon. This sounds fantastic out of my h-s-s American strat. This thing is a beast it has plenty of crunch and when I roll back my guitar volume it cleans up like a beauty. Really digging the remedy I feel as though I have found the right Z for me.

Really digging the remedy I feel as though I have found the right Z for me. Good to hear, Skeets. I know you were kinda agonizing over which Z to go for. Sounds like the Rem is giving you what you were seeking.

I sense almost a bit of defensiveness in the thread? ? Guess what, the Remedy does not need defenders or excuses, it is an awesome amp, perhaps the good DR's flagship? With all things in life, it boils down to personal preference. Kinda like women!

"Any suggestions for a good, closed 1x12?"
Dr. Z 1x12 Convertible. Hard to beat.
