Very cool! Nothing like calling up the tracking number and reading "out for delivery". :-)

Dang! I was just sitting here thinking you probably have a couple hours playing time on it already and were going to post your first impressions any minute!
Apparently Dale Jarrett isn't behind the wheel! ;D

It finally arrived! Heres the whole family Now I know what everyone means about the 6v6 "chime"...I hear the same qualitys in this amp as I do in my Princeton. My time tonight will be limited so stay tuned for updates come Friday after Ive played a gig with it.

I see you have good taste in picking color schemes. Here's a shot of my old Maz Jr I sold to a bandmate.

I woke up early this morning so I could play on the amp some more and I'll play a gig with it tonight. The Z28 definitely has the Princeton kinda thing going on but it is much more controllable...tele62 emailed me last night and commented on some tone settings that yield a much cleaner tone(B & T about 9oclock) and I tried it out...sho nuff it is a pretty clean machine even with the volume up around 3oclock. It doesnt have the sag/compression that the EL84 amps have(and Im afraid I will miss that) but I still think its a great addition to the family. I'll post more thoughts after tonights gig.
I did plug my Tonker into it for just a minute...not sure about that combination. the Tonker has so much low end that it sounded a little imbalanced to me. That was a very quick test though, I may try it again after I've had some playing time on it.
BTW...Do all Z28's have a clear jewel lamp?

ALL my Z's have green Jewels. Mojo baby yeah..... Ronnie, Give the sag thang some time, I had a hard time going from my Ghia to the 28, but it's growing on me FAST, I like how Percussive the 28 is with the tone controls lower and those 6V6's working harder. I sure am jonesin' for a Sr.....

Congratulations - that's a real nice setup! Pardon me if you've noted this, but what speaker do you have in the Z28?
I think the Z28 is a very versatile amp - the tone controls are more like gain controls, and I'm always tweaking and liking what I find. I haven't switched out jewels, so I can't comment on that. I know I like the blue one!

ALL my Z's have green Jewels. Showoff! BTW, mine is a single 12 combo with a Greenback. Just out of curiosity...what other speakers have Greenback-like characteristics but will yield more apparent volume (more sensitivity, higher wattage or whatever the heck it is that makes some speakers louder than others)?

Just out of curiosity...what other speakers have Greenback-like characteristics but will yield more apparent volume (more sensitivity, higher wattage or whatever the heck it is that makes some speakers louder than others)? It's the Db rating, i.e. 103 SEEMS louder than 97. I really like V-30's, a lot of folks don't, I do. I have one in a Z 1x12 open back, it 's real good for a more edgy sound. I have one in a Z 1x12 that is nearly completely closed back, that one is much more focused and w/the Z-28 you can really hear the speaker werkin'. Man o man do I like the Wheat Grill cloth, my 28 head and the open back cab are black/wheat....B U tiful IMO. Works well with that red 2 ya'll !

I like the wheat but the Salt/Pepper looks good too...I wish both matched exactly but hey, I got the primary color right!

Hey rcrecelius, I've got the same choice as you to make (Ghia or Z28). If i remember correctly from the tdpri, you play mainly country with a little blues. That's basically what i do, too. So for a bp/country tone which would you suggest? Thing is i could tweak the ghia for more headroom, but i couldn't make the z28 have more of a british el-84 natural compression thing going. I played the ghia and loved it, but was slightly concerned about early breakup, even though i play mostly in band practices and at home (fairly low volume levels). Which is better for country, your maz 38 or z28? I'd imagine that with a compressor the z28 would get the brent mason with alan jackson tone, which i love too, so i'm in a bit of a dilemma..

Its hard to say now nickg...I giged the Z28 last and all I can say is Wow, we must play incredibly loud...I ended up with the volume maxed, bass off, and treble around 9 clock with a blues driver on all the time to boost the signal and especially to add some high end to the tone...the Z28 is fairly dark sounding in contrast to other amps Ive played. I held my guitars volume back to about ¾ for clean tones(if you could call em that) and dimed it for overdriven stuff. I must admit...it was fun playing that way because I was pretty much using the guitars volume to dictate the amount of overdrive but I did miss having a "cleaner" clean tone. Maybe a more efficient speaker would yield a better clean sound at high volumes.

Yeah I'd pull that greenback out and stick the Tonker in, that'll help a lot. Put an RC Booster in the chain. I used that exact rig with some large bands and never had a problem with the 28 being heard.

I may try that next week...Im gonna play it as is the remainder of this weekend. I tried the Tonker (but only for a minute) and it seemed too bassy...I'd need more time with it to make a really fair assesment.

I just ordered a MAZ 38 SR and a Z-28 last week. You have no idea how envious I am right now! Pretty funny how similar our set up's are gonna be. Why don't you use the Sr as a clean amp channel and the 28 as a dirty channel? Congrat's brother!
