hey guys, i fired up my jr today after about a month of not playing it and it was really really woofy. none of the sparkle it normally has and when i strummed it was overdriving on a setting that is normally really clean and spanky. I'm assuming i blew a tube. Is that what you guys think? if it is i'll just put all new tubes in since their all still the factory tubes and it's almost two years old now (i know i know i know.. but i'm mostly a bed room player these days). If it's not the tubes, what's wrong with my baby??? thanks guys, m@

I haven't heard of that symptom for a tube issue, but I suppose it is possible. Is it possible the speaker is blown? Was the speaker plugged in to the proper output (matched impedance)? Was your guitar tone knob up (I've had this "issue" before)?

since the last time i played it (which it sounded more than perfect then) i have not unplugged anything. Also it did it with both of my guitars. Also i don't run the speakers that hard to blow them. Tubes was the only thing i could think of.
Edit: I just went and checked the speaker cable, because your comment got me worried, but it is in fact in the proper output.
I'm going to try it again with the pedal board out of the loop just to make sure it's nothing there too.

UPDATE:
So i just tried it out with out the pedal board and it's still really muddy sounding. There is definitely a significant increase in the low end which makes every pickup position other than the bridge position on my strat sound horribly muddy. Also the speakers seem to be acting normal. I'm really thinking it's got to be a loss of tone due to old tubes. I really don't have that many hours on this amp since i haven't gotten to play it out as much as i was planning on when i bought it, and i don't get to use it that much at home a lot of times. But if nobody has any other suggestions of what i could be i guess i'm just going to invest in some new tubes and see if that makes it all better.

Most likely a tube issue. Did you have a loss of volume? I would try replacing the power tubes first , they're usually the first to go and can do some wonky things.

UPDATE: Yes i was getting some volume loss.. so i was playing a week or so ago and it cleared right up while i was playing and the volume got quite a bit louder. Everything worked great till i took it to church with me yesterday. Same thing, everything was muffled and low volume till it cleared itself up in practice. I put it on standby and it went right back to being quite and muffled... i'm definitely going to try replacing the power tubes after this incident. thanks m@

awesome! Glad you fixed it. the doc also recommends taking your speakers out and putting them in a closed up box with those little silica pouches for about a week. he said it does wonders for your speakers, seeing how over time moisture from humdity and elevation can really soak into the cones. so you may wanna do that too just for a little extra tlc.
