OK... I love the Monza and am getting more used to using the guitar vol for control rather than pedals. I've been using the Flying Dragon, Draconis and KOT with my amps and with the Monza. I have gotten used to how you could punch the front end of an amp for pre-amp gain with these pedals. While I still love how these pedals work with the Monza I don't notice the "gain" effect as much when you turn up these pedals as much with the Monza as I do with my other Z-Amps.
It's making me think that the pre-amp is already hot? I don't know if Doc spoke about the pre-amp of the Monza at Z-Fest and if anybody that was at Z-Fest can bemember better than I can.
Thanks

Thanks Paul, I don't know about the technicals, but I think you are spot on. Today I was playing the Monza with V and D around 9:30, T at 10. I switched on my MAZ 18, set with both V and MV in the 12 to 1 range. Unplugged from the Monza, went straight into the MAZ and the MAZ was way quieter. Now get this: the Monza had the Brake Lite on 2 and the MAZ was unattenuated! One hot amp ;D Mike

Mike,
What if you ran the same comparison, but with the MAZ MV all the way open? Then find the volume level that seems = to the Monza as you had it set up with the volume on the MAZ...so Monza volume at 9:30 = ?? volume level on the MAZ with it's MV wide open? Just curious...

I'll give it a try, probably this weekend. Then I'll have time to also try it with the tone bypass engaged.

I think a lot of Maz peeps are looking at a Monza a sa backup or A/B possibility (I know I am) so I'd love to hear you very valuable opinion Mike. Cheers Pete ;D

Hope to get to it this weekend! Well, now it will probably be next weekend. I have to leave on a business trip in an hour. I'll be in Europe most of the week. Just squeezed an hour in with the Monza w/ no pedals. Everything controlled by guitar -- midboost on EC Strat a +. Loved the tones I was getting. Probably will add a reverb or delay, maybe chorus, for a gig. One other note: use best cables possible and true bypass pedals. Any tone suck from the signal chain is very apparent.

I've hit mine with a Bad Monkey and a Boosta Grande so far with great results. Also I have used my active EMG equipped guitar 81/60 and it just gets a real nice naughty overdrive that sings. Of course ya don't want to over do it but there is some wiggle room for boosting that gives great results IMO.
Also I have a Telefunken in V1 and the LPS in the PI. RFT EL84's and I put a BEL GZ34 5AR4 - 1970s in place of the Sovtec. The amp likes Telefunken SP's in V1.
This amp is great out of the gate but I have other tubes on hand to try. Its something I'm able to do readily. Don't think you need to though.
