here is a guy who started taking hammond organ transformers and making little 18 watt amp heads and turned it into the line of amps it is today. and he has done it without making an amp that has 6L6 tubes, which is the most common fender tube that has ever been used. and he stands behind his product ( doesnt do the point to point wiring anymore but found someone reputable to do it) and answers emails and answers the phone a lot. who could say which is the best amp design? i have owned a route 66, 2 carmen ghias, a kt45, a mazerati old model that is dirtier than the newer ones, and now own a z-28 and a maz 38 2/12. all of them have sounded very good. all of them had great build quality. all of them have great resale value. i have owned a fender hot rod deluxe that was taller on one side than it was on the other. mike zaite has kept his prices down and quality up, which is what everybody in america wants. just find the model you likand buy tubes for it and it will last your lifetime and you can give it to your kids. i am a 52 year old guy, and aseveral years ago when i was buying different old fenders, i met a guy online who told me he decided to work with Z amps and let the old fenders go , for a variety of reasons,,, mainly , you are getting a modern amp with vintage tones, great build quality, from someone who will stand behind their line. every time i plug into my z's they sound great and i can try different tubes that make them sound different. for instance, i tried a sovtek 12ax7lps in the v-1 position of my maz 38 and it had a clean tone that was very pleasing, then i put a groove tube "M" in that slot and it had a great overdrive and completely different tone. changing the eq's on it gave it a lot of depth. i cant say that with an old pro reverb i used to have.. z is a great success story.he built it from the ground up very slowly and, as a dealer in dallas told me, who used to build some guitars for SRV, " i cant keep them in the store"
