I haven't posted on this forum for a long time, but I'm so happy with my Brake Lite, that I wanted to post a clip of one in action. This is a band demo song that I recorded in my small home studio. The lead guitar track is what I used the Brake Lite on. I'm playing a Parts-O-Strat with Rio Grande Tallboy pickups into a Tweed Deluxe, 5E3 clone with NOS RCA Black Plate power tubes, into a Mojo 2x12 cab loaded with Celestion GK-100s. The Brake Lite is between the amp and cab and is set on the number "2" position. The guitar is plugged directly into the amp, with no pedals. I wanted some mild power tube breakup, but needed to get it at fairly low volume because of my thin walled house and bitchy neighbors. I used an SM57 that went into a Mackie Onyx board and sent that signal via firewire directly into Cubase running on a PC. Light software compression, verb and delay were added at mix down. I love that the Brake Lite was able to help those 6V6s breakup, while still retaining sparkle and dynamics. What a great unit! I used it for the first time on a gig in a small Bistro last week and it was a life saver. I was able to get all of the OD I needed at a reasonable level, without using a pedal. Part of the gig was while dinner was being served and we never got one complaint about being too loud. I've never found an OD pedal I really liked, but I sure like this Brake Lite! Here's the clip: soundclick.com/share?songid=8833027

Sweet clip, nothing like a little Soul music to start the day. Great tone glad the BL was a help in getting that sound.

Hey Benttop, I've always enjoyed the sound clips you've contributed here. The clip you did comparing different levels of attenuation with the same amp and guitar and then normalizing them all to the same volume level was brilliant. Believe it or not, that clip convinced me to buy a Brake Lite without ever actually playing through one. No Dr. Z dealers near me unfortunately. Keep 'em commin' dude!

I may yet get my recording system back online. It's down still due to other priorities and Windows 7 compatibility issues. To get back to some recording, I have to spend a couple hundred for an upgrade. FOO!

That way you can run your legacy music apps under XP, but still use 7 for other things. Good luck getting your recoding system backup and running.

Good luck getting your recoding system backup and running. Well theoretically I should be able to do that under Windows 7, but when 7 came out, Digidesign released a public beta of their 64 bit driver for Pro Tools. Homey has to has 64 bit. So my plans changed at that point to upgrade rather than make work.

Thanks guitarman1 for the great clip from down east of the Cooper, and Steve for all the wonderful knowledge you share and time you put in here! I think I'll add a Brake-lite to my MAZ Sr on order...

Whoa....Steve! Jack here in Utah! No way! I just bought a MAZ 18 NR last night. I'm in my hotel room and can't play it loud at all and can't wait to play it when I get home. Can't believe this is you! I wanna get a Brake Lite...is it worth it? How's the PRS SC doing? Cheers. My first Dr. Z amp. I'm so stoked brother!
