Lefty,
How does that 2x10 cab sound? I've been thinking of getting a cab for my Ghia & cant decide between a 1x12 or a 2x10. Even thought about a Z-Best, but that might be a little too large/heavy for me. I'm not getting any younger.

You would be AMAZED how big the 2x10 sounds. He uses "Lens" technology to make the 10's sounds even bigger than they already do. The 10's are rated at 70 watts each and truly let the amp shine. I HIGHLY recommend them!

A 70w rating would mean that they dont break up & the sound that you hear coming from them is all your amps doing. Is that right?

Darn toot'n! Although the speakers DO have a large part in it. Just try it with an Air Brake ;D
But they really lets your amp breathe!

That makes the 2x10 a 140 watt cab. I could use a small cab for my Delta 88...what do the Z 10's sound like...Celestions, Jensens or a type of Weber??

From the Dr.
"I have developed my own 10 inch speaker, it will be incorporated in the new 2X10 Ghia combo, the Z-28 4X10, the 4X10 open back cab, and the MAZ -38 and Jr. 2X10 reverb combo's. I utilized a process that I learned from my friend Ted Weber at Weber VST: that is incorporate the response of a sample speaker, them tweak the voice coil, mag circuit, and dust cap to achieve a optimum design. On the Z 10 inch speaker, I utilize an English made cone and voice coil, along with a basket and magnet from Eminence, and assemble them in house. I select a different dust cap depending on the amp that I install them in. There has been a lot of time in the development of this speaker, but I 'm very happy with the results, it gives me control of the speakers tone, and no delays for speaker deliveries."
They are a bit of Brit and USA combined...nice mids great lows and not very spikey in the mids.

Man I've been jones'n for one-o-these. I think it would compliment my Ghia purty good. I'd thought about a Maz Jr...but...thought tone wise they might be to close. Plus I like that the Z-28 just has 3 knobs. Any one else have a Z-28 ,& a Ghia? What'cha think?

The Z-28 and the Ghia are both very different amps and do what they do very well. The Z-28 is more in the Fender range (big feet skinny legs) and the Ghia has more of a Vox flavor to it. It compresses and distorts easier than the Z-28. I find the Z-28 has more of a Fender chime to it.
I debated alot on which way to go for my 2nd Z amp. I thought about another Z-28 or even a Route 66. But the 66 is too much power for my needs (hell I bought an Air Brake for my Z-28). So the next logical choice was to go Ghia. Now I have a nice range of tone to choose from depending my my toneal needs.

You are correct sir! I have both. They are both quite different beasts but what they do is AMAZING! I wouldn't get rid of either one of them for anything!

My Z-28 came from the dealer (Willcutt's) with a special order Celestion Century 12". N-i-i-i-i-i-ce! I gotta admit I was pretty skeptical being a confirmed G12H30 kinda' guy, but after a few gigs I'm convinced...it's a keeper.

The Z28 is my fourth, and favorite Z. It fits in just about perfect...the right volume, drive, simplicity, I LOVE this amp.
I'm using it either through a Z 1x12 V30, Z 4x10, or the latest ...an Avatar 1x12 w/ Cele Alnico Blue...AMAZING sounding speaker with a Strat. Just got to keep an eye on the volume knob ;D

It's ALLLLL About the Z28. My personal GRAIL!!! Have you all tried Scumback speakers yet? HUGE improvment over the stock Celestions available today. (Not that they're bad!) I've got a few coming, and got to beta test the new G12M clone. Killer. All my cabs are getting these. The Z28 ate up this M like well...I dunno. Broken analogy brain fart. But it sounded AWESOME!! Here's my Z28

Howdy BigMike!
I got turned on to the Scumbacks about 2 weeks ago now, and there's no turning back. I talked to Jim for about 2 hours on the phone before and after I bought these speakers (as I think you know since you called him up while I was on the other line with him)... It was easy for him to convince me to order, and after the first pair were soldered into my cab I knew it would only be Scumbacks from here on out.
I've got a pair of 75 H mags in my EarCandy 2x12 cab that I use with my Ghia and my KT-45 (sorry, don't own a Z-28), and I can't see myself ever using speakers from anywhere else.
Jim Seavall is really onto something here. Haven't had a chance to try out the M's, but I'm sure they'll be awesome as well. It'd be killer to hear what an H and M mix in a Z-best or other 2x12 would sound like with a Z amp driving them. Pure manna from the skies for sure!
Funny thing is Jim knows exactly how you're going to react to these speakers before you've even had a chance to play through them... Combine that with the fact that he's the only guy you can this magic Kool-Aid from, and it kind of almost makes you hate the guy in a way!!! (only kidding of course.... LOL). ;D
Ummm, yeah... What I meant was, Z-heads would be well-advised to check out the Scumbacks. Highly recommended.

nice... the guy's name should be Jim Jones (of the Jonestown cult massacre fame) rather than Seavall... Once you drink the Scumback Kool-Aid, man, it's over.

my z-28 4/10 combo was bought used, needed 6V6s replaced, got groove tubes, they didnt have enough high end treble, bought some cheaper jj teslas, not bad, still not enough high end, bought some expensive marconi 6v6s, really nice overdrive, but way too bassy, so, got so two of the used yellowjackets rated for this amp using el84 tubes,,, this really brightned up the amp, but lost some of the bass, so after leaving in the groove tube 12ax7 m, and trying some different unknown jj el84s it is just fine. using the yellowjackets, el84s, and dario ef86, and a groove tube 12ax7m,,, tube dollars layout: jellowjackets 50$,(usued) el84s 15.00, ef86 45.00, and 12ax7m 21.oo. kinda pricey, but you could spend more. somebody asked on here about a weber coppercap rectifier, but i had a good amp maker tell me he had trouble with some of them with the soldererin coming loose and burning up in the amp,,, i took mine out. maybe it was with amps that get real hot, but i dont want to take a chance. a sovteck 5ar4 is pretty cheap...

After I got the RxES I hung onto to it for my 16 yo son, but he needed more gain with his band so I sold it and bought him a solid state 4x12 rig, and a new Z cabinet for me.
The Z28 is a killer amp, one of my all time favs. It with an RC Booster & delay will go a long way.
