With other amps I have always been in the habit of pegging the master to get the cleanest sound possible. On my new EZG I have found that diming the post control results in a loud humm. The hum is present without anything in the input, the pre at zero, reverb off, and the power plugged into a good power conditioner, and is directly related to the setting of the post control.
Is this just the nature of the beast?

The only hum I have heard is related to a reverb issue I had, which has been almost completely resolved thanks to the good customer service after the sale of Dr. Z and Mass Street Music.
Now when the reverb is on almost all the way, I get a very small amount of hum and when the reverb is off- it is one of the MOST QUIET amplifiers I have heard or owned. I would double check all connections then check earlier postings in the forum to see if anything relates- speaker cable, reverb box being loose, bad power cable, new reverb or preamp tubes, etc. Good luck!

My combo has a small amount of hum just idling just a tad louder than my Victoria Deluxe in the idle mode also. I don't consider it a big deal as you can't hear it when you play.

Yeah, so far I have tried switching speaker cables, speaker cabinet, power cable, bypassing power conditioner (straight into the wall), I have exchanged each pre-amp tube one at a time, changed the rectifier tube. Today I am going to try a different pair of 6L6's. I am used to a certain amount of "noise floor" from my Maz heads and especially my AC-30, but this is a deep (60 cycle?) hum that is many times louder than my other amps at idle. I really want this amp to work

try flipping the reverb tank around, may or may not help.

Hi everyone! I'm a new EZG owner.....
Mine does hum as well......very interestingly when I compared to my Boogie MK1 with my tele plugged in the total noise of the Boogie is louder than the Z.......total noise including the single coil noise with EZG50 is less..........
Playing with a Z 1-12 convertable rigtht now with the back closed......just ordered a 4-10.......can't wait!!

Mkae sure your Chassis Bolts are good and Tight very tight, This is apart of the Grounding. Also it could be in the speaker cable your using, and or the Speakers not being in Phase? or just loose connection on the Cab? Hope this helped?

I compared hum between my new EZG50 and my Boogie Mark I reissue.......both hum significantly with the master vol dimed. The EZG50 is a little more prominant....
Both have even more hum when reverb turned up all the way......
However, both the master volume and reverb settings are not really practical.....
My oprinion is that it is the "nature of the beast"

My oprinion is that it is the "nature of the beast" I ended up sending the EZG-50 head up to the Z boys. They said it had a bad Tung Sol in V1 and the bias was set too low. They cut the hum down at least 2/3rds (maybe more) to a very acceptable level and I am absolutely loving this amp......big, full, and doesn't disappear in a big rooms. Great service and a great amp.

Thanks ScottStrat!!!
I had a Sovtek 5751 and threw it in V1 and it cut the hum down quite a bit....its a lower output tube and it probably means cranking the pre up a little bit..... but I want clean anyway!!
I had swapped the PI tube earlier in the day without a noticeable difference......

Here's an upate on my EZG50 head. I replaced V3 with my V1 Tung Sol 12AX7 and replaced V1 with a Sovtek 12AX7LPS I had on my shelf.....result is hum pretty much eliminated....still have some slight hum when the reverb is turned up, but I have no problems with that..... Not much faith in pre amp tube quality in general...had several swaps in my Boogie Mark I before it was right...........
