Yep - that's my old one... I'd like to hear how it sounds after the Doc got ahold of it. It's definitely one of a kind..

Anyone remember what he was asking on TGP, before this got listed on Ebay?
Just curious...

Hi Blair and others, I'm the one selling the SRZ, so I thought I'd chime in here. Most of what I could say to describe the amp I put in the description. Johnny, I don't know what the amp was like when you had it, but when I got it it was in a sad sounding state.... Someone had modded it with a huge cap removing literally all the high end from the guitar input. Whoever I bought it from was either clueless what state it was in (which is hard to believe because it sounded bad), or was mis-representing it.... what can you do? I wasn't comfortable selling it in that condition myself (which I considered doing because I didn't like it), because it was so clearly wrong. So, I had the Dr fix it, which also enabled me to check out a real SRZ which was what I had wanted all along. It was a wild ride.....
Anyways, I can't post it in the Buy/Sell area because of low post count.... even though I've been a member for 1-2 years at this point I think. By the end of trying to sell it directly I was offering it for $1350 shipped.
If anyone on here is interested in buying it direct, please feel free to contact me at will (at) cleanplate (dot) com

hey johnny, well if it was modded before when you had it, that would be interesting. in the state i received it, the amp was very dark, where the highs had to be almost completely cranked and the bass almost completely rolled off to sound ok, and the gain was very fuzzy. and even then it was not a very crisp, or normal bright sounding amp at all. does that sound like how you had it?

If I wasn't already so happy with my '93 SRZ-65RH, I'd be a bidder - these are really great amps. And kudos to you for getting the Doc to get it back up to full steam! Cheers, Blair

I'm guessing it was modded before I bought it from Flynn's in Evanston, IL. I thought it sounded great when I got it but over time I realized I needed better cleans and less wattage - hence I sold it for a ghia. I did have to roll off the bass almost all the way to brighten it up for clean tones - now it makes sense... It was a distortion monster though.. I remember hitting the front end with a Sunface fuzz one night and all these overtones just came pouring out of that sucker w/ sustain for days... Cool amp now made even cooler sounds like..

And kudos to you for getting the Doc to get it back up to full steam! Thanks man, I was ready to sell it how I got it, but I realized I couldn't in good conscious claim it as a great Dr Z, because I own a Ghia, and my buddy has an 88, and I know what great Z's are, and it was not one..... It seemed unfair to the buyer, unfair to the Doc, and made me uncomfortable. Still kind of a hard decision to put more money into an amp after not expecting to, although in my experience with internet buys, that is usually unfortunately the case. But regardless, now it is a great Z and ready for someone to love!

By the end of trying to sell it directly I was offering it for $1350 shipped. Congrats on the Ebay auction - looks like you did much better than your last ad on TGP! This amp should be well worth the cash for the buyer. Cheers, Blair

Thanks Blair! Well, I started my TGP listing at $1500 which I thought might be a bit much, but I guess turned out to be about the determined value to some folks. Either way, I'm pleased not to have lost my shirt on this amp, and hopefully someone is pleased to have a new sweet amp with a good back story!
sorry bubs42 if you lost the bidding!

Well in this fast paced modern world the winner of the bidding was actually in possession of the amp yesterday! But thanks for your offer, and good luck finding one!
