Just been down in the studio playing the SRZ-65 and I suppose I had a bit of a wake up call with this amp. Man oh man - with my Strat volume sitting on 5 and the neck pup selected this thing has the coolest blues tone - clean and clear, yet with a growl just under the hood. You push the volume up just a tad and there's the growl. When you're ready to solo you crank it and the full bloom of the power amp comes into play and the notes just sing. I gotta find a decent backing track and record this because it sure was floating my boat tonight.

benttop, you've got me thinking about an RX-ES with the help of all of your clips.
But you're so right about a strat, a neck pickup, and the SRZ. It does bloom exceptionally well when you push the volume. In fact, I'll be back later. The email and computer stuff can wait a while.
I'm looking forward to that clip, too.

Well they are both great amps, but not really the same thing. I think we can conclude that Mike likes to build a variety of different amps, but all of which have a characteristic that can be identified as uniquely Dr. Z. Designing amps that are all the same in that way, yet all completely different at the same time is no small feat!

The argument for having more than one amp comes around again. I'll have to try a few more to settle on a collection that works for me.
BTW, nitehawk had to rummage a bit to find me a Mullard after you were through. It worked out for all of us in the end.
Heh.
