Was wondering, are most of you SRZ-natics:
setting the head for gain and wailing away;
- or -
setting for a light grit bed and using some boosts/drives?

I've got a 6545, and I rarely use pedals with it.
If anyone from Oregon has an SRZ-65 and wants to compare it with a 6545, that would be pretty interesting.

I've been experimenting with tube substitutions here so I can throttle the gain back a bit. If I have my gain much above 9 o'clock I'm getting more gain than I want, so I'm trying to move that up to about noon with tubes. Unfortunately taxes got in the way and delayed my experiments! Anyway, if I can get it about where I want it, I plan to A/B it with a cleaner amp (the Stingray) so I won't really need any pedals in front of the SRZ.

I set my combo with just a little grit as I can't get it to the volume some of the other guys are playing at. I use two OD's and a clean boost. If I want it really clean I back off the volume knob and set the strat in the #2 pick up position and the PRS the same. That offers alot more options for me as we are playing everything from Bob Marley,SRV,Dylan,Police, to Three doors down and Jimmy eat world.

I like the master at full and the gain at 10 o'clock, and that's plenty of output tube dist. with not too much preamp gain--smoooooothe (I have an airbrake to control volume). If need be I'll use the BB preamp, mostly likely with the strat.

I'm playing a gig tonight at the Roxy in Vancouver. Will be using the old '93 SRZ-65RH. Gain on full. No pedals ('cept a tuner).
Just wailing on the V through the Z!
Cheers, Blair

I run my gain wide open. It's still very articulate with the settings I use. Of course I run the volume almost wide open too.

I Love this AMP!! It's so Marshall sounding. No Overdrive or Boost pedals needed!!
