This is from DRZ's quote via Lefty's post in the Tube section. Here's the link, don't want anyone misunderstand and hurt their amp. drzamplifiers.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tubes&action=display&thread=6263"I like 5V4's as they are in between the dynamic and higher powered 5AR4 and the spongy 5U4. I would use them more but they are hard to find these day's and no one makes a GOOD replacement. I like 5V4's in EL-84/EL34 amps especially for smooth BLUES tones." DR Z Anyone ever try a 5V4 in their SRZ-65? I would like to find an easy way to make it sound a little softer, maybe a little more toward Plexi tone. I heard most of the Carl V. clips with the SRZ, but I can't make it sound like that. I currently have JAN 5751's in V1&2 and they please my ears, but yet the ears want more. I like DRZ's opinion on the "smooth blues tones." I try it just because of that.

I just ordered some NOS RCA 5V4G's. Anyone know the difference between the 5V4G and the 5V4GA? So far, only read that it's just the shape of the glass, ST and cylinder shapes. I hope the G is okay to use in the SRZ.

Im not familiar with that one? I use an original Mullard 5AR4 Sounds awesome. The key IMHO of getting that Plexi tone is not being affraid of twisting the knobs and let your ears be the judge not your eyes. I was doing a large gig with the SRZ one night and looked back and I had the Mid on 4 or 5oclock the treble on 2 oclock and the bass at noon! it was pure super lead! tone, oh yeah it helps when using a 4x12 cab! Let me know what you discover with that tube. May give a try too.

Carl Uses the KT77's That gives more that Plexi Midrang Tone however It makes the Amp Louder and takes a little bit of the Shrill the EL34's give but the 77's are the ticket!
