Mick Taylor said in a British guitar mag that, "My own personal view is that the [Celestion] Gold is going to work fabulously with Hand-Wired Marshalls and amps of that ilk." Sounds yummy.

I voted for the 410 cab....
Since I received my SRZ LE, I've only played it through my stock 90's Matchless 410 open back. And I have not had so much 410 fun since the days of my '69 Park into a 410.....
Admittedly, I like the Matchless/Celestion 10's used in these cabs... I'm not sure if the formula for Celestion 10's have changed, but I like the ones Matchless used in the 90's. And I will be ordering a Dr. Z 410 black/red cab...
I would like to understand more about the current Z 10's available and consider Weber custom spec'd speakers. Celestion just announced Greenback 10's are coming. And I'm likely to mix 2 pair of different 10's in any upcoming Z 410 cab... Maybe a pair of "clears" on top and "creams" on bottom... Like Balco customers... "the Clear and the Cream"....
I DO need to try 212 and 412's with the SRZLE.... I use stock '68 - '76 412's by Park/Marshall whenever I can and THD open back 212's loaded with Celestion/Scumback/Weber Pre-Rola/TT Hemp whenever I travel. I also have a GT 212 convertible back and a Reinhardt 112 open back.
I'll post again after I run the SRZLE through the 112/212/412 guantlet... but right now, I'm better than happy with the 410... And always better than obliging to Dr. Z for the horsepower.

Okay... I just blasted a rehearsal through a 212 THD cab loaded with Weber P12R and a Fane Alnico... Once plugged in I adjusted the bass and mids... then ran through Deep Purple, Eddie Money, ARS, Blackfoot, and Cream.... stock Faded LP into a Hoochee Mama and Eternity (each pedal only used on some tunes); but mostly LP straight into SRZ...
I voted for 410's as I've been using a 90's Matchless 410 with Matchless Celestions. I dunno... the 212 was pretty darn rock'n also... this SRZ would kill through my fav 73 Marshall 412 or 70 Park 412....
Where I'm sitting right now... the 410 puts the SRZ out front of the mix. Really gives you great flexibility and nice texture in that natural SRZ OD... the 212 seemed deeper as if its sits in the back of the mix kind of pushing or driving the song with power.... Both are great, and wherever possible I will pick the cab for the need.
I'm still leaning towards the 410, but more 212 and 412 playing is a'coming...
Good luck with your choices... but the head, the SRZ is flat out great...

My bandmate has a Splawn halfstack. The cab contains eminence Big Block speakers. My SRZ sounds great through it, but even better through my Z best.

minor thread resurrection here .... but a good read and it has been somewhat helpful in confirming why I've got g.a.s. for this amp and a few others in the Z line-up I think the SRZ with Z-best is the way to go (even if it's me playin' thru 'em) ... 'course I will probably be workin' with my Z 210 if and when I get my SRZ-65. cheers always ,eh Joel

Well I can confirm that the SRZ loves my Z-Best. I have also played it through my 1x12 with Gold and I don't think there's enough bottom, but maybe that's because I have the back off. With the Z-Best though - NICE. Just about perfect for the SRZ.

I know that Carl Verheyen uses a 4X12 cab with greenbacks with his SRZ65, and he gets some awesome tones with that cab. The Z best would probably sound good too.
I plan to get an SRZ65 in the next few months (it will be my first Dr. Z ;D)

I run mine through a Z-Best with WGS clones of Lead 80s. Sounds fantastic. Please remember that the SRZ-65 has a TON of power. It will fry many low powered speakers - it fried my stock G12-30 Anniversary in no time. I strongly recommend that if you are going the 212 route and you play loud, use speakers rated for no less than 50W each - I'd even be nervous about that.
I have no 10" speakers to use, so no frame of reference there.
Cheers, Blair
