After much thought and consideration, I've decided to look at getting a 1x12 cab with a Weber speaker to go with my SRZ when it comes in. I was originally looking at a 4x10, but after realizing I can't even play my KT at decent levels at gigs and practices, I am looking for less volume.
The SRZ is going to be my distortion sound only (the 45 will handle cleans). So, I am looking for a Weber speaker that has high power handling, but can break up at lower volumes. I'm going for the Plexi sound (but better of course!) I am open minded so if there are any suggestions for other makers that's cool too. But it seems like Weber is a good place to look first.
I was also thinking about whether I should try alnicos or ceramics.
Any suggestions?

I fully intend to use my 1x12 cabinet with the new SRZ 65. I've used it, or another Z 1x12 cab with a Maz Sr, Ghia, Z28, RxES, and a Stingray...with good results, both in terms of volume level AND tone. The question will be which speaker will work/sound better with the SRZ, the 50w Weber blue dog or my 150w Tonker.
I suspect when first quarter '07 hits, there will be lots of speaker experimenting going on! ;D

Cool Mad
BTW, forgot to add, what ohmage should I buy? I was thinking either 8 or 16 ohms. Do they sound different?

I would get an 8 ohm. Any difference in sound would just be normal variation due to different batches of components so in other words, probably none. The 8 ohm would be more useful to use with other amps you might have down the road.

I run my SRZ into a 1x12 cab loaded with a Weber Silver Bell 50 watt 8 ohm speaker with moderate dope. Sounds great to my ears.

Sorry... no clips. I don't have the ability to record any decent clips. The SRZ/Silver Bell combo is a rock & roll machine for sure.

I understand volume can be an issue. But if you can do the 4x10, I'm a big fan. I just got a 6545, and run it through a 4x10 loaded with eminence ramrods. Sounds absolutely amazing, great early break-up, but with a nice definition through-out the frequency range, really nice mid punch too. I absolutely love the 65 side of this amp.

if volume (or $$) wasn't an issue, I would definitely get a 4x10. I will eventually get a 4x10 cab down the road, then I would regulate the 1x12 to maybe a Ghia

I'd bet a 4x12 cab with Celestion heritage greenbacks (20watts) would sound absolutely killer and probably wouldn't be overly loud in comparison to some other cabs. I'm betting the stock Zbest will rock too. Man, I SO want one of these amps!

If one went with a 1x12 with a SRZ/6545, and Celestions, you'd have to go V30 or the Heritage G1265, right?

The G10 Greenbacks are rated 30W and 95dB. That should knock a little volume off the top, eh? The Z 10s sound fantastic, but they crank out around 100dB.

The amazing thing about this thread is there is a 3 year gap between posts.

Hahahahahahaaa
It's all good. Hopefully it will be there in years to come. You will look back at it with fond memories, trust me. I wish I had the technology back when I was in my teens to digitally record. That SRZ you were playing sounded great mate.
