I am officially in the market for a SRZ-65
Which leads to one problem....they are out of production (for now)
I would go for a 6545, but I already have a KT-45 and I love it. From what I understand, the SRZ is a bit more aggressive and gainier (or do I have it backwards?). Nevertheless, my eye's on a used SRZ-65.
and I am pretty sure none of you guys are planning to part with yours, but no harm in trying....
If anybody is selling their SRZ, or knows someone who is, drop me a line.
I'm going to post a similar thread in the buy/sell/trade forum
Later I'm planning on a Z 4x10...I was thinking using the Doctor's own speakers, but do you guys have any suggestion?
Grazie mille!

The SRZ has been out of production for a while now. From what I understand, Z replaced it with the 6545. I believe the 6545 is more likely to be brought back into production than the SRZ is. Of course thats just my opinion. A Z 4x10 is an excellent cab for the SRZ. Very 3 dimensional and sounds huge.

The SRZ is more agressive .... higher voltages for one thing and there are a few other differences ... presence control for one thing and it is a piece of the SRZ-65 mojo. ... way more so than on some amps like Marshalls. Just ask Carl Verheyen how his SRZ compares to his plexis which it replaced.

My SRZ is by far the best sounding "Marshall" style amp that I have ever played.

My SRZ is by far the best sounding "Marshall" style amp that I have ever played. Carl Verheyen would agree with you and lord knows we tried a lot of amps to replace his sixties plexys. Listen to his song "slang justice" at about the five minute mark on either the CD or on the live DVD ... it happens about the same place in the studio recording and on the live show .... that is what a guitar is supposed to sound like! That was done with his 50 watt Plexi and the SRZ sounds even better. You will hear a lot of SRZ-65 on his next CD which is in process now. www.carlverheyen.com

Hipfan ...
If Skydog gets this from you and he is ever near Los Angeles I will bias it for him and give him a complete new set of tubes for it and set it up in the same way with the same tubes and same specs as Carl Verheyen's.
I love tweeking these.

I wonder if flying from CT to LA is worth a set of new tubes and tweeking...*rubs chin thoughtfully*
Would you mind if I sent it in the mail, Myles? :-P

I never work on amps at all unless the owner/player is there while it is being worked on. It is really an interactive process with a lot of options. I also like being able to show the amp's owner things inside the amp and give them some hints and tips. But ... bring it and you to L.A. and I would go over the amp with you for nothing. .... but if people asked you have to tell them you paid $165 and hour.

Myles,I just purchased a used SRZ65 recently from a forum member. This amp smokes alot of Marshall amps make today.IMO.I was playing for a few hours last night and A/B with TopHat Emplexador 50.What an oustanding SRZ 65 really is.It takes pedals real well too. What a great amp,I can see why CV uses it to replace his Marshalls.Any suggestions on different settings with strats and lester,Myles.

It was partly because he started making the 6545. I'm surprised he didn't discontinue the regular KT-45 as well as the SRZ-65 in one fell swoop.

I would ask setting info from Carl Verheyen in his thread in the ask the experts area. Yes ... the SRZ-65 will beat out Marshalls when A/B'd by every player I have come across so far. I think it is a matter that the SRZ can cover any tone that a Plexi Marshall or 2204 can do but then do even more, the master volume really works well, the tube rectifier makes the amp more fun to play and more touch sensitive and the tone controls work much nicer than in the Marshalls.

It was partly because he started making the 6545. I'm surprised he didn't discontinue the regular KT-45 as well as the SRZ-65 in one fell swoop. Even though the amps are very similar in some ways I find the SRZ-65 more gainy than the 65 side of the 6545, and you also have a presence control that is pretty darn cool in the way it works on the SRZ. The KT-45 is also different to my ears by a touch from the 45 side of the 6545. But .... the 6545 is an amazing piece of work that is so close to the other two amps that it has it's own great niche.
