I was wondering..... I know that different tubes can be used for a different sound but.... What "other" tubes will work in the Mazarati besides the ones that are in it? and what will those changes give me? more volume.... tone change...etc... is there any kind of list available with the info? and finally.....what WON'T work. i know i'm asking a lot of questions... but I don't want to kill the amp. thanks a million for any help. jacques

Tubes are a big crapshoot. NOS seem to be the best shot but any tube can fail for any reason. In my quest for 12AX7's as spares and having a cache for the future when tubes are even higher in cost. I just buy 1 or 2 every so often. In my experience I've bought expensive NOS and within a year they fail. They sounded really good but they failed. I've bought Used NOS and they lasted a couple years or a couple months. The main thing is if they sound good in the amp. I bought a few used Mullard 12AX7's from the 60's and they sounded good in my amp. I put in RCA's from the same vintage and they sounded great. You just have to experiment. But one thing is constant, tube prices are steadily going up for vintage tubes from the 70's to the 50's, pulls, used and NOS. Get them while they're still affordable. Here's a link for one of the best tube resources on the net: www.guitaramplifierblueprinting.com/index2.html

I think I read somewhere you can sub out the 5751 for a 12AX7 for higher gain. For my Mazerati I wouldn't do that. I like the way it sounds with the way it came.

thanks for the feedback, but perhaps i wasn't clear in my original post. I was asking about different values of tubes..... like 5751 instead of a 12ax7 etc....not different brands or NOS vs new stuff... sorry for the confusion.
any ideas?

I understood you. Hence my advice about being able to sub out a 5751 for a 12AX7. Its a pretty simple amp. It isn't like there is a plethora of options. And thats what I love about this amp.
