I like to jam in my basement. I don't play out. Mostly use my gear for recording or noodling around.
Both amps are rater at 5 watts, both have the same tube layout. While the Z is $900 the price of the new 1x10 Mini-Z but the Class 5 is $400 new.
The mini-z comes with the attenuator which the marshall does not. The Z is also hand wired while the marshall is not.
I was able to play the Marshall today. While it was a one trick pony, it was a good one at that.
While I know this is a Z board, honest opinions, what do you guys think I should get?

If you have or have access to a suitable cabinet, the Mini-Z head, particularly if found used, might be a more affordable angle. I don't kinow about the other amp, but my Mini-Z head is a blast when I run it into the G12H30 in my MAZ-18 combo. With the attenuation, you can roar at a fairly low volume, or open her up and see how loud 5 tube watts can be.
Like all Zs, this amp responds very well to pedals of all sorts.

I've got a Marshall Class 5 that I love. I'm currently looking at also buying a mini-z to add to the collection. I hate to not give you advice one way or the other, but in my experience both are fantastic amps that you can't go wrong with. So if money is an issue, then you should look at the Marshall. If money is no issue for you then go with the mini-z, As well, if you like to tinker with bass, mids, and treble on your amps, then you will want to go with the Marshall.

Finally got to check out the Marshall Class5 at a geetar shop close to me...first impressions...the Mini eats this thing alive as far as TONE goes, attenuator or not. The Mini (and I'm sure all of the Doc's offerings) is just 'musical'...every note sings. The Marshall, to me, just sounded like another PCB, mass produced amp. I play mostly P-90's (and played them through the Marshall)...no contest IMHO...
The Mini Z Rules!

I'd love to hear if anyone's been able to do a side by side of these 2 amps, and is able to speak to volume...?
I find the Class 5 is pretty impressively loud...curious how the Mini-Z keeps up.

I took the Marshall Class 5 for a 30 minute ride today....Pretty cool amp except that the Bass knob is pretty worthless if you are using a humbucker type guitar. To keep a tight low end you have to drop the bass quite a bit. From the Gearmanndude's video on the Mini Z...I think the Z will win you over if money is no issue! Good luck!

Just the fact the marshall is a PCB and the Z is handwired should be all you need to know to make the right decision!
Besides that mini-z is one of the best little amps out there.

Yep, I'm not an owner of a Mini-Z, but I can tell you first hand these high dollar 5 watters are smokin. I have played every new 5 watt amp I have seen and none zero zippo have compaired to the Mini-Z I played, or the TopHat, or the Swart, or a couple others I have seen around.
Find a used Mini-Z head
