Bought a 20th anniversary 1x12 Rx Jr from "asattwanger" last night. Coming with a Weber in it. Anxious to really hear my guitar again after 15 months away from Z ownership.
Any advice from the circle of Junior owners?
Thanks again Dave for an outstanding deal.

I'd really like to hear your impressions regarding this amp. The RXJR has come up a few times now in threads about other amps, and it sounds like the implications are that this amp can be run clean, "hairy clean" or pretty hot and gainy, and do the gainy thing at moderate volumes with the Master Volume. It was said that the Monza by contrast must be very loud to do it's thing.
Just curious how well this amp covers various loudness scenarios other than the extreme clean limitations inherent in a dual EL84 design.
Congrats on the amp!

Jon, I'm really happy to see that you picked up Dave's RX Jr. Hope it treats you kindly, and I am anxious to hear what you think!

I'm looking forward to plugging into any Z at this point - but from what I read this one will work well for me. Judging by your gear list, you unloaded the old Z-28 at some point.

My RxJr was my go to for awhile...
I kept the OD on with a 90° shorted jack in the back and used the guitar volume with a clean boost. The MV will blow you away!
I'm sure Dave broke in that speaker for you.
Congrats on your new amp!

I'm sure Dave broke in that speaker for you. Congrats on your new amp! Danka! You'll have to explain the 90 degree shorted jack part to me. At this point - I'm considering putting a Greenback in it. Seems to be the standard for a Rx Jr. combo. I was also thinking of maybe an Eminence Private Jack, but the 50 watt rating may be too high. Dunno!

I took a 1/4" 90° jack and soldered the tip and sleeve together... Shorted it.
It goes into the footswitch hole and keeps the OD on all the time.

Any advice from the circle of Junior owners? It loves the Flying Dragon ;D Congrats! I'll second the shorted plug idea: I keep one taped inside my head just in case I forget the footswitch at home

Stout, a green or green clone will be wonderful in there. When I plugged that thing into EVH cab it was unreal. Big rock tone!!!!
I was gonna buy a MojoTone BV-25M for $84.00 for the extra Z-cab I have. I'm sure it has to be great, because the BV-30H's I have in my Swarts are wonderful sounding speakers. Plus you can't beat the price.
Plus, what Dunstin is saying about the Dragon is true. You can really expland the gain options by boosting the front end of the RxJr also.

Glad you were able to bag a good one from one of the forumites. Yes, regretfully, I sold off the Z28 around last Thanksgiving. I even had an EZG-50 for a while. It's very unlike me to cycle through amps quickly, but I have primarily found my sound with EL84's. Gotta have that chime. Loved the Z28, but it was impractical to have that many amps at once. Maybe one of these days I'll bump back into another one. Best of luck on your search for tone!

Even my friend who sold me the Z-28 knew it would be a stepping stone to another model of Z. I've also decided to replace the Weber with an Eminence Private Jack. The reviews and descriptions make me feel it will meet my needs more than a Greenback. Besides - I'm also on a mission to buy American made products.

oh man i used my rxjr with my private jack for a little bit and i couldnt believe how awesome the amp sounded when i was getting some crunch from it. using a G&L ASAT Classic... Plugged into the Low input...OD was on and volume on 7 with bass at 3 mids at 6 and highs at 4 the tone was great. it was very clear and it had a very clean crunch to it. wasnt muffled at all. im going to have to try that combination again soon. private jacks are great speakers!

Great to hear a member share that a Private Jack worked well for them. Now I'm REALLY anxious for next week. Wish I had the funds to have it shipped 2 day express. I'll have to borrow my son's Asat to get your exact sound, but he won't mind because he'll want to use the amp.

o-yeah, I had forgotten your son has an Asat. Cool!!!! Yep! The mighty big orange Asat! Which has always been in a home with a Z amp. My son is the 3rd owner of the guitar. Here's a pic' taken by the original owner.

Sure does - almost too good. I hear everything!!! I'm not kidding when I say I'm going to buy something to practice with and improve my "chops knowledge".
