I have a Maz jr reverb with 2 10's. I have substituted some Weber Alnico's for the Doc's 10's and i like having the option to switch back and forth. I love this amp and gig with it regularly. I recently purchased the Doc's 1x12 cab with a Celestion V30. I don't have experience with this speaker/cab. In fact it's not delivered yet, but soon! So, I'm needing a head to go with the cab. I love the sound of EL84's. Not sure if i will get another Maz jr no reverb or the RX jr. From reading posts it sounds like the Rx will give me more gain than the Maz. Could anyone comment on how the Rx jr might sound with the 1x12 cab (celestion V30) compared to the Maz jr 2x10 with the Weber Alnicos? Thanks much.

I wish I could comment on the 10's - that's one cab I don't have yet, but I'll tell you my Rx Jr sounds great thru 1 or 2 V30's - open or closed back, 1 G12h - open back, and the same for my Weber Alnico Blue Dog (50 watt) that I have for my Maz 38. It is a completely different EL84 amp than my Maz 38 ( I do not have the Maz Jr) - probably because there's less in the tone circuit and because the Master Volume is supposed to be like an attenuator as well. I have heard some great clips of the Maz Jr, but I do not think you'll be disappointed in the Rx Jr - and it can get plenty loud, don't worry about that. Good luck on your search.

How would you say the Rx jr sounds different from your Maz 38?

I hope some others will pipe in on this because I'm not that articulate with my descriptions. My Maz is a fantastic over all great amp. I feel I can take it to any gig whether it's church or playing out with the band I'm in. It handles humbuckers, P90's & singlecoils wonderfully and takes all the pedals I throw at it. I can max the master volume and turn the reg volume down to 9 or 10 or vice versa - tons of head room. It doesn't seem to have a lot of bass though - enough but not big. The Rx Jr is kind of like my Dirt Bike amp. It can be clean but it prefers to take the off road, with or without pedals. With the OD function and the master volume you have a a lot of options in the gain dept., and it has a lot more bass on tap. Because I don't play in large venues I leave my OD function on and use the low input while pushing the master volume, getting a great sound at a reasonably lower level. My Strat & Tele sound awesome (this amp can be bright also) and my PRS singlecut with P90's just rips as well as my McCarty's. I haven't played thru a Marshall since '73 but I think it lends more toward that sound and the Maz is more Vox. Hope that helps clarify a bit, and as your discovering, the speakers change the whole equation also. as a side note, I was just playing my MCarty hollowbody thru the Rx Jr with the Flying Dragon pushing it a bit more and I was getting Creams "Fresh Cream" (Sleepy Time Time) and of course "Crossroads" - that classic Clapton sound. My Maz 38 cannot do that.
