I was playing around with tubes today and came across a 6072A a friend gave me a while ago. It's a jan 12AY7. Decided to try it in my Mini Z and wow. It gave me more headroom. With the guitar volume down and the amp volume at 1 o-clock it approached real cleans and turning the guitar volume up it still had more than enough dirty. The low end was bigger and tighter and the distortion smoother with more compression. It's a keeper.

I'll have to play with the tubes in my mini. That sounds cool and worth a try.

I had to sell mine but loved the 12AY7 in my mini combo. Just tamed it down a bit.

I swapped out the ax for an ay last night and was amazed by the difference. I was getting crunchy breakup at 9, now I don't see it till 3. I'm gonna hold onto the ax bc there is something awesome about wailing away on the mini with all that hair on the tone, but for practicing with the band in the basement, the ay makes it managable on tunes that require clean headroom.

I was thinking of sticking a 5751 in there to see what it sounded like.
