Picked up a Rt 66 head from Curt (tele62) yesterday. Man, this thing is awesome! I love it. I can't wait to hear it with the band(s) and try it through my Zbest. Can't imagine it sounding any better than through this 115 cab. Just straight into the amp, no pedals, maxed out. Of course I won't be able to gig w/ it at that volume. I'm really impressed. Man, oh, man! OMG, Curt sold his Route 66 AGAIN? Hasn't he had 4 or something? Congrats, its a great amp, I think he said that yours is a particularly good one, and he would know.

We actually traded some stuff. I think I do recall reading on here that he's had 4 of 'em. He said he picked this one up in a trade w/ Krustzy (Andy). Guess we're jes spreadin' the Z around the family. And I don't know about any of the other ones, but yes, this is a good un. A really good un to my ears.

Yeah well I guess good tone travels far, thankyou whoever invented the internet..was that Dr Z? Sweet Jaye, I'll have to come & hear your rig in action. I'm movin' north next year, maybe as far as Brisbane, this place shuts down in winter. Gotta find a place where good tone can be played/heard everyday..is there a land of Z?
Gotta get some..zzzzZZZZZzzzz's ;D

Well the Route 66 has arrived & my god it "sounds good" Couldn't belive how round and curvy the sound was & how it cleaned up with a little turn of the guitar volume switch. I had no idea that a 30wt amp could be so loud, the Z airbrake is a must but I can't wait to play in a venue fully cranked. It has such a nice "big" bottom end sound (like my ex girlfriend ;D). Hats off to it's creator, this is my new favourite amp & is going on tour with me around Australia next year, I'm very happy ;D

I'm finding the same things out about the 66 I just picked up. I'm exploring mostly the clean tones right now, until a Weber arrives, and it's really a versatile amp. I turned it up to about 2:00 today and manoman I found some great crunch, but so loud in my little house. It's alright, patience being a virtue and all I can use the practice.
Congrats on your new Z, I'm right there with ya!

Congrats on the new amp On top of that, it's so transparent (in turn of letting the tone of the guitar come through as people have said) that I've been inspired to change the pickups in my afore mentioned LP copy. Although they sound great, they're a cheaper set of humbuckers that were originally in my Ibanez hollowbody and I'm curious as to how a better set would sound. I would highly recommend Motorcity pickups Afwayu humbuckers. I put them in my 73 deluxe & they are amazing. I'm having a set of mini buckers done for my Firebird as we speak & I'm very excited.
Speaking of boosts and pedals... (I started this thread so I'll digress if I want, but I'll probably ask this under effects too), Anyone played any ThroBak pedals? I'm thinking it'd be fun to add a Tonebender style fuzz to my minimalist rig. The ThroBak Stone Bender has gotten some good reviews on Harmony Central (not that that means anything), and the clips nail that Zeppelin tone, a pretty good Sola Sound Tone Bender MkII clone with some additional features to my ear, but I haven't played a lot of pedals. Seeing the Soulbender is no longer being produced and I can't find one used, I'm leaning towards this one, any thoughts?
I havn't tried any Throbak stuff ,but I do have a fuzz that does the tonebender thing & its awsome. The 66 ,a paul & a bender absolutly nails zepplin. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice fuzzkarl, I appreciate it.
I should have updated this thread earlier because I actually already replaced the pickups in that guitar. I went with Duncan '59s for something vintage sounding, plus that guitar is not a straight LP copy, it has a Wilkinson Vibrato for the bridge, which is spaced a little wider, but not as wide as a Floyd. The Duncan Trembucker 59 in the bridge lines up perfectly, while others I was afraid would be to narrow (although I learned later that I think the Gibosn Ones are wider in the bridge too).
As for the tonebender. I actually decided on something not so distinct and ordered a Skreddy Screwdriver. I don't have it yet, might be a month or two, but I think it'll kill with the 66. Sort of a combination hybrid fuzz, OD and Treble boost. A lot of the makers I talked to seemed to indicate that tonebender clones in general clean up well, but are still pretty over the top and so might not be best suited for leaving on all the time (at least for what I do) which is why I went with something else to start. Depending on what I think of the Skreddy when I get it, I'll see if I think I still need to add a tonebender clone or not.
The 66 does do a great Zeppelin, even without a box... just turn it up and let rip.

my fuzz is the same way, does fuzz face tonebender & treble boost .It has a blend knob to combine the 3 .Very cool & very useful. It also does great OD & boost duties. I can go from zep to crowes to jimi to zztop to cream. It realy covers 90% of my fuzz duties. If your skreddy is anything like my fuzz you should be very happy.
