I see comments about how bright the RXES is and I'm wondering is it brighter then the MAZ, I'm thinking about getting a head to go with my MAZ combo and running it out of my 1x12 convertable cab, this for my clean tele tones and the MAZ for my PRS blues /rock tones, any comments?

When I saw the title of this thread, my brain immediately said "Maz for blues, RXES for country" - I think you would like that setup. I certainly do. The RXES can be real bright, but it tames real well and responds to your speaker setup in a friendly way. I like mine through Weber Blue Dogs and it sounds great through the G12-65 I have here. Never tried the Alnico Tone Tubby but from what I've tried I'd say it would probably like that one too.

Thanks,I think I'll take the plunge!!, I have a C-gold in the MAZ combo and a G12H30 in my convertable and I think I'll just swap them around for now,I wonder if the Doc has a bright cap mod for the RXES like he does for the MAZ in case I found it too bright?

Heres a suggestion (read my thread "Cut Control for the RX-ES") I have both amps MAZ 38 Sr 2x12 and a RX ES 2x12. I have always had an issue with the RX ES being way to bright (I also use a Tele) so after consulting with Z, I had a CUT CONTROL and a Master Vol installed (both are done in a post pi circuit) which I thought would opperate much like they do in my MAZ 38, and as expected they work great ! Unless you are playing large venues consistantly the MV mod is 100% required, I couldnt even begin to use my RX ES in a club setting without it, and I actually feel the same about the Cut Control. Definately if you get the RX ES Head, the Cut control will allow the head to be used much more effectively with different speaker and cabnit configurations. I have 2 Celestion Golds in my RX, and I'm going to swap one out for a GH12 to smooth it out a bit (the golds have huge sparkle on top and very reed like mid range) I have a Celestion Blue / GH12 in my MAZ and it is an unbelievable sounding amp ! So I expect much the same results with my RX after the mods and the speaker swap ! Hope this gives you a few ideas. Mike
