Celestion Gold 50 W with a RXJR Is that to much speaker for the JR? I was thinking of it for a Remedy, But could avoid Buying another cab if it would work for the RXJr as well. Doc's Customer service told me that the G12-65 would be to much speaker for the Rxjr. So I am wondering would it be different with a more efficient speaker like the GOLD.

Anybody?? I am assuming you can. I was thinking of a Gold and a GH30 to use with a remedy and RXJR. That would work right.

I find that for what I play the Gold "ONCE BROKEN IN" is fine. To my ears it doesn't sound that great until broken in for the lower wattage amps. Actually when the Gold was new I was disappointed with how it sounded with the RxJr and the Ghia, but after it was broken in, I do like it. I like it with the Blue better but I'm afraid as sometimes I think I'm risking blowing it out... So try it out before you decide. Personally I like the RxJr with a 2x10 with single coils and with Humbuckers I like it with a 12". The Blue is a better match with AlNiCo but I think I've heard some here saying the Celestion G12 is the match for this amp. It's up to your ears.

I hadn't tried it before but after reading this I put my Rx Jr head on top of my Maz 38 combo, which has a Weber 50 watt Alnico Blue Dog, connected the speaker to it and took it for a ride and it sounded fantastic with my Asat (w/Lollar Specials) and my McCarty Hollowbody - no OD pedals, just a touch of delay. The cab I usually use has the V30 and G12h which is great as well, but I may have to take both amps like that to my next gig and try it like that at a louder volume.

I always thought the Blue Dog was a great speaker for the RXES here, but I never tried my RX Jr. I did compare the RX Jr and RXES though, and felt they shared all the same tones, so I would expect the Jr to do well with a Blue Dog. Once broken in...

I've got a Gold paired with my Rx Jr. and it works well for me. I've also played the Rx Jr. through a V30 and at G12H and the Gold has been the best. I really don't think it's too much speaker. Steve knows better than any of us;)

I have an Avatar with a Gold in it + RXJR. I say go for it. It's pretty much amazing. I've yet to hear an overdrive pedal that can do what this amp does.

i know they are diff. speakers but concidering that the gold is only a 30 watt speaker and the CELESTION GB that comes stock is 25 yeah i don't see why it would be too much.

The 10" Golds are 40 watts, the 12" Golds are 50 watts.

how do the 10's sound? i was looking at those a few days ago. I don't have Celestion Gold 10"s, but I have Weber AlNiCo Blue Pups and AlNiCo Silver 10"s. They are all the 30 watt 16 ohm versions. I really like the Silver 10"s. Coincidentally, I broke my RXJr out yesterday (I bet it's been a couple of months since I've fired 'er up) and was running it through my Mesa 4X10 cab. It has the Blue Pups and Silver 10"s in an X pattern and wired for stereo. I haven't bonded well w/ the Blue Pups. I play mostly w/ distorted sounds, and the Blue Pups are undoped. They don't hold up real well on the low end, and they tend to fart-out when driven hard. The Silvers are lightly doped, and I think they sound fantastic. Now back to the RXJr... I decided to mess around w/ it through the 4X10. I was going back and forth between the Silvers and the Blues and both together. They sound very different. The Silvers, perhaps because of the dope, are much tighter. They both compress a good bit (in a good way). They both have that "ka-rang" and upper mid chime. But what I heard w/ the Blue Pups that I didn't like w/ my other Zs, I found to be quite nice w/ the RXJr. It was a loose rattiness that just seemed to fit. I was using my Guild Bluesbird w/ Duncan P90s. The combination of the P90s, RXJr, and the Blue Pups gave this great vintage/classic Rock-N-Roll rattiness that I hadn't experienced before w/ my other Z amps. I was really thinking about selling those two Blue Pups and the Mesa cab due to lack of use. After my experience w/ them yesterday, I'm going to hang on to them a little longer to see if they grow on me. I know that didn't answer you question about the Gold 10"s. I have a Gold 12" in a Z Convertible that sounds great w/ the Jr.. And as I said, I really like the AlNiCo Weber Silver 10"s w/ just about all my Z amps. These AlNiCo Blue Pups are now justifying their stay at my house a little longer for further exploration. There are a lot of different AlNiCo speakers out there in both 10" and 12" sizes. They all have their own character. You just have to experiment and see what you like. I know that can be an expensive proposition w/ AlNiCo speakers, but you can find them used on the BS&T, Ebay, Craigslist, etc.. which can ease the price a little. And if you get one that you don't like the sound of, you can always resell it to someone else who is doing the same experimenting. If you get them used, you really won't take a bath on them if you resell. Good luck in your search!

Everyone's ears are different. My experience with Weber Blue Pups has been very positive with an RxJr., Ghia, Monza, and Maz 18 Jr.

Just wanted to ask a few questions about this amp/speaker configuration. I'm looking at buying my first Z, and this is really peaking my interest. 1) I've heard this is the way to go if I'm looking for the Brad Paisley sound. Is there a big difference between the Gold and the Blue Bell? I realize the wattage is different, but what other differences are there? 2) How does the gain work with this? If I want some gain but don't want to rattle the house, do I just crank the Volume on the front and keep the Master low?
This is my first time getting into an amp that can actually have a nice gain naturally without having to stomp a pedal. I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe now, and the gain on it sucks. I've got an Imminence speaker in it, but I love a Vox-y/Marshall-y type gain. Am I completely backwards? I want something that can do bedroom and small gig/church. Thanks!

Thanks! -A I cannot speak for the Blues or Golds since I do not have them, but re your volume issue and the scenarios you described this amp will fit the bill perfectly. The master volume is more of an attenuator and allows you to push the front end real hard. You can clean it up just as easy, and the Overdose function gives you more depth or overdrive - depending on how you set it up. It also takes pedals very good. I have used mine at church as well as outdoor gigs and with 2x10's, 1x12, or 2x12's. It will give a Hot Rod Deluxe a run for it's money in the volume dept I think but leave it in the dust sonically.

i run an avatar two twelve cab with h30's in it. I think it gives the jr. more bottom end and can help darken it up a bit.

Thanks for the quick replies! I definitely want to get a RxJr at this point with with Celestion Gold and a Brake Lite. Now if I can just get Richmond Music Center to let me trade my PRS Custom 22 in towards it we'll be great! :-) I'll keep ya'll posted as the process moves along.
