Hi. Just joined up. I've been looking at the Galaxie 210. Really like what I hear in that amp. Lots of understated power, which is how I like my amps. I camped out in the local MnP last Saturday for 2 hrs. A/B'd the Prescription Jr, Maz 18, the Gal 210 and an older model Mazeratti (not GT) head thru a Z-best 112.
At first I really liked the RxJr for it's bright tones. Very much like my AC30. But as I progressed thru the amps, the Galaxie and the older Maz really stood out for me. Thing is, I never picked up the Galaxie combo. No clue what that puppy weighs in at. So, that is really my first post - any clue what the Gal 210 combo hits on the scales? Amp weight is the reason I stopped giggin with the Mesa LS (94lbs) and then the Vox AC30 (70lbs). Tell me the Galaxie weighs under 50lbs (uh, maybe even if it doesn't <lol>)

First, welcome aboard
Second, were you playin' a G&L or a Heritage with Z amps?
And, third yes I do believe the Galaxie weighs under 50lb ('course I can't always read numbers right). Lotsa tone in there though - channel 1 has that late 50s tweed (Super, Pro and low-powered Twin) and channel 2 has that hot rockin' sweetness. It is a great way to start collectin' the whole set. ;D
cheers always, eh

HI Joel,
Hmmmm, Heritage, eh? <lol> I took my G&L Custom Z3. I did get a Grosh semi off the hooks, but honestly, it wasn't anything like my Prospect or Millies. Not bad, just not the same beast. Currently, the Z3 is getting the gig time. Altho' the Heritages get used as well. Thinking of going back this Saturday with both guitars in tow. Maybe take a portable scale?

cheers always, eh

Right now is a great time to buy a Galaxie. Is that like "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. 2nd best time is right now" ? So, why?

Galaxie rocks! It is sorta like a cross between an old Fender super or bassman ("clean" channel) and a Marshall JCM 800 (dirty channel). Although to be honest, it is both these things and more. Dr. Z worked some mojo on this amp and in some ways it is all these things and more. You can't go wrong, other than, yeah, it is a loud amp.
Weight of the amp shouldn't matter too much- I am biased though, cause I lug around Orange 4x12 cabs and Eden 4x10s, so the Z amps are like a walk in the park!

I had a personal chuckle when I got home and read the specs on the Galaxie. I played the bejeebers out of that amp at the shop. Just loved it. Then got home and read it was the Dr.'s take on a Tweed Super. Uh ...... my gigging amp for the past year has been a Tweed Super! Just seemed too weird and coincedental. But the weight thang. It's a for real consideration.
Also played a lot thru an original model Mazeratti and a 1x12 cab. Up in the air about either one at the moment. (Head + Cab) vs (Combo). Gonna have to play both again.

There's some Gals cheap right now on E-bay - brand new (retirement sale from Z dealer I believe)

Right now is a great time to buy a Galaxie. Is that like "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. 2nd best time is right now" ? So, why? Well I could go ahead and tell you as I'm constantly hunting amps and guitars but I'll let our friend Jaguarguy tell you again. There's some Gals cheap right now on E-bay - brand new (retirement sale from Z dealer I believe) Sometimes it's just the right time. Now is one of them. DAVE

Welcome to the forum Tulk1. It's a great place as are the amps. I never weighed my Galaxie Combo but suspect 48lbs is pretty close. It ain't a deluxe reverb lightweight but it's not a mesa anvil either. The Galaxie 2x10 combo is a great sounding amp. If you're not adverse to a head/cab setup it's a great option. Different speaker cabs make a huge difference with the Galaxie. 4x10's sound incredible as do 4x12s! I prefer a 1x12 or 2x10 cab but that's just a preference and you can't go wrong with the 2x10 combo.

I just shipped my Gal back to Dr Z and the UPS scale said 64 lbs - it is the 2x10 combo.

My 1x12 is right at 48lbs. What did you pick up tulk1. The Mazeratti is a great amp, and they don't make that model any more.
Cheers, Richard
