So Ive recently been drafted into the Dr Z camp after a many many years with other amps that just nver did it for me. I got my hands on a EZG-50 and A Dr Z 4x10 cab and am really blown away by the tone, the quality and couldnt be happier with the clean tone and reverb. Im wanting to add to my arsenal with a higher gain amp, I have heard the Mazerati GT is possibly the way to go. I know i culd use a pedal to boost or get dirt, but nothig can compare to tube saturation......imo So am I haeaded in the right direction, or could someone direct me to a more suitable Z.... Im not wanting high gain as in "metal" lol,..but classic rock crunck through some really nice heavy distortion..... Mazerati GT? ??

depends on how loud you like to play or can play at. the GT is very loud and doesnt have a lot of adjustability in its volume. its full-on from the get-go. you might need to get an attentuator.
i love the GT's sound and pondering on whether i should get one myself. another Z i would suggest is the SRZ but it is a different-sounding amp. also the new Monza

zombiez, The GT is an amazing amp. It sustains (feedback) notes for as long as you care to hold them. It will sort of give you a crunch, but not like a Marshall crunch. It is a very smooth articulate OD/Distortion. It comes on pretty fast (pretty much anywhere beyond 9:00-10:00) where you are getting grit. And as said above, the GT is LOUD. You would really need an attenuator to use it in practically any setting. Unlike some here on the Forum, I think the GT cleans up pretty nice w/ rolling back the guitar's volume. W/ a strat, I can get very nice cleans. 'buckers tend to push a little harder. I'm running my GT w/ a newly acquired SRZ in a stereo rig. They compliment each other quite nice. The GT brings the raging mids, and the SRZ fills in the lows and highs well. For cleans, I roll back the guitar volume knob. I don't get Stangray or EZG pristine cleans, but they do for what I need in the music I play. Both are great RNR amps.

The SRZ!!!! Hands Down! Go from classic rock Crunch to Raging Metal Grind!!! But still with great tone not MUSH! Congrats on the EZG! AWESOME amp! With the right pedal such as a Radial Plextube or Seymour Duncan Twin TUbe that EZG will be in very hi Gain Territory!

I know clips aren't the ultimate tool to choose an amp with, but I've owned both the SRZ and the Mazerati GT, and I've done clips with both. They are all posted over at Steve's gear page - check them out.
