So I've been using a fatboost (version 2) on my fender twin reverb and it always sounded good, nice break up, helped that fender tone cut through a bit more.
Then I demo'd the RX jr and thought "WOW, i need to have this".
Since the RX jr has that built in boost pedal, I decided to give em a shoot out. While the fatboost does get you pretty close, the built in dr z switch gives you that perfect level of crunch/breakup.
Now I know it would be a different story if I was using the fatboost version-3, because that pedal doesn't necessarily crunch like version 2. I'd call it a "lighter" version of V-2.
I don't use my fatboost on the RX jr because it is simply not needed. Now I just put the fatboost after the AB/Y box so it only hooks up to the fender.
Using both boosts on the Dr Z and Fender at the same time...Now that's a blast ;D

H'mmm I thought there was gonna be a question about this.
Anyway, your talking about two different places of boosting the amp. The boost on the amp is boosting the Ef86 which is post EQ. If you were to run the Fatboost 2 clean but boosted to drive the input tube "12ax7" you would be driving the pre-EQ. To me this is a really cool thing because you can really stack the the overdrives of this amp and you can get a killer natural metal tone out of boost/lower gain pedals.
It also seams like your talking about running the FB2 with the drive up some, so your getting that tweedy type of grit added. Yes that sound alone is very different from the RxJr with the volume set at 2 o'clock+ and stepping on the boost.
I have used the FB2 non-stop sense it was released and I have used is in all the different ways I could find. A boost, limeter {w/Z-28 for low volume} distortion, and now as a sweetner.
The "sweetner" as I call it is running the FB2 with no bass added, no treble cut, drive turned all the way down, and the volume just barely ever so slightly boosted. What I hear is it about the same {not exactly} as when you have the RxJr's boost on and the amp running clean. At the same time it adds the slightest bit of compression. It won't compress crap, but it does the slightest bit of compression on well played parts and it sound great to me.
So on my board the FB2 gets my cable from my guitar and then into the volume pedal so reguardless of what I do with the volume pedal I alway get the "Sweetner" on my signal. The FB2 is totaly tucked away and hasn't change it's dials in over a year or so.
Great amp the RxJr is.
