Ok I know the Van Amps is not tube but it is all analog and a benchmark for me. Has anyone used both? I'm sure the Z is better but how much?

I have also been looking at both the Zverb and the Sole Mate. From the few clips that I could find online, both sound really nice with low and moderate reverb. The Zverb really seems to take the lead with surf type reverb. I am really leaning toward the Zverb. I have played the Zverb at a local shop and it was really nice. I have not had the opportunity to play a Sole Mate. Here is a link to the Ztalk thread with a Zfest09 Zverb demo... how sweet the Zverb sounds... ;D drzamplifiers.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=video&thread=26848

I have played both and I really didn't think there was much of a difference between the two (IMO). I went with the Sole mate because it was 1/2 the price, smaller and lighter (I don't like lugging around a bunch of crap). I have played a few dozen gigs with it and very happy with it. The ONLY thing I would change is an effects loop in my Galaxie though that isn't possible. I've toyed with the idea of hard wiring it into my amp since Gals are not available with verb.

So the Solemate does that single echo almost delay sound in both warm and bright reverb sounds? It does the way far out deep space lost in reverb mush thing also? Of course it must do the normal sight reverb sound for standard musical needs, right?

I owned a VanAmps...and currently own the Z-Verb.
The VanAmps is a fantastic unit for the money. The difference between the two would be that the Z-Verb sounds warmer and a more natural reverb.

I have a Solemate and really like it but I like the idea of having a tone to brighten it up if needed. As for buffering, I have an RC Booster which should do the trick if there is tone loss. I ordered a Z Verb today and cannot wait. I have a Maz Jr NR and adding the Z Verb should round it off nicely.

The Zverb is an outstanding unit--I had one and really liked it, though it was ultimately too pricey to justify for one simple effect so I dealt it off. The ZVerb does color your tone noticeably, too, though in a good way with the MAZ 18 NR I was using it with--rounds things off, as harry says. I've got a Nenaber Wet reverb pedal that's good with clean tones, though it gets a bit harsh sounding with overdriven tones. The search goes on. Maybe the Vanamps is the answer...

The Van Amps is a very nice sounding unit...
BUT...
it is a very fragile unit.

When I was researching a replacement for the zverb I researched the Demeter Reverbulator and the van amps. I settled on the Demeter only because of the similar warmth to the zverb. The only reason I replaced my zverb was to have one less thing to carry around. The reverbulator fits well on my furhman board.

I bought the Sole Mate - just couldn't justify the cost of the Z-Verb. I did get the chance to A/B it with a Z-Verb when I dropped into Peach's here in the UK. For "normal" reverb there's nothing to choose between them. If you want surf (I didn't) then the Z-Verb has the edge. The Sole-Mate does have an extra bonus - the Aux socket and switch - run another cable from the switch to the Channel on the amp you're not using, and the Aux switch will switch amp channels for you - nice!
