Well Seth's Mazerati arrived safely last night, and I put it together (we exchanged chassis only). She works great and looks rather nice in her new red outfit. I hooked it up to one of my Alnico Golds in a convertible cab. Wow, if I'd had the Golds in my Mazerati 2x12 combo, I might have had to suck up the weight and keep it. It sounds loud, proud, and very strong. The Mazerati has real strong upper mids, and the Gold is just about perfect for that kind of tone. Looking forward to some recording with this tone monster.

Sweet!
I'm glad you picked that up. My wife was getting real nervous about me looking at that BS&T post over and over... ;D I'm glad I held out for the SRZ, though.
I was real tempted on that Mazerati... it was a heck of a deal.
I look forward to hearing your clips.

Heh... my recording system is down for the moment, but I just realized I have a backup system. Might be able to pull a clip out of that...

Well I just spent about an hour wanking away with the Mazerati. She is as good as I remember, and more. When I had my first Mazerati, I had not yet discovered the joys of Alnico Golds - but I have now! With tone at around 1 o'clock, and volume at about 2:30 o'clock (attenuated) I was getting just great tones. Play softly, it's nice and clear and clean. Dig in and it gets downright NASTY. What a cool sounding amplifier! I'm totally digging it tonight.

Lets hear some of that wankage Steve....come on, we all can't wait.
What's your personal opinion, is it a tele bridge pickup amp like the Ray or does it lend itself to a strat. I've heard it,s not bad with buckers. Dave Milsap plays his equally well with a Nocaster and a PRS.
I think I just may have to get myself a Celestion Gold, better still a Mazerati to go with it as well. ;D

No doubt it likes this setup, but I'll try the Strats and the Les Paul soon.

So my guess is you'll be posting some samples on your Wsite soon, right Steve?

Well I tried the Les Paul tonight, and it was "fine" but nothing like the Tele. Nothing... Gotta try the Strat next...

I forgot about P90's...................The Ghia sounded great with my Les Paul Special when I had that, I figure the Mazerati would as well being very mid focused.

I'm not denying those Celestion Golds sound like heaven but I think I recal Curt saying something like he favoured the Mazerati with a well broken in V30 (it's all about those upper mids) as well. Then again it could have been the Ray' he was talking about. Maybe he'll chime(excuse the pun) in here?

My Mazerati combo came with two V30's, and at first they were way too honky. But after a load of time, they started sounding really great. I've said a dozen times here that if I'd bought a head/cab instead of a 2x12 combo I'd still have that amp, because it sounded great. Well, yeah! This here head sounds great all right. But I have since discovered the Golds, and I'm here to tell you, that is the shiz...

Steve, The Tone Tubby alnico with the Mazerati is killer but I haven't used a speaker with the Mazerati that didn't sound good!! This is one of those amps that ain't picky!!! ;D

I have one of those too - but no cabs left to put any more speakers in! I wish speakers popped out and back in without any real effort....

I've got to hear that amp, i bet it sounds great! BTW: I've got this really cool weber 2x12 pine cab, the kermit cab, that you need for more speaker experimentation!

You know, this thread just goes back to the "what's good for one, isn't necessarily good for another".
I've always loved the Mazerati. I love my RxES.
That being said, there are those that will say "I like it, but it's too bright", "it's not what I thought it was", "I can't get a tone I like out of this, what's the deal?".
All to find out that, what is "bright and ice picky to me" is "it cuts thru the mix and I love how I can hear myself" to another.
Glad you could reconnect Steve.

Yeah, we all listen with a different ear. That's why it's so hard to answer the question "Which one is for me?" when it comes up here all the time. It's really hard saying, isn't it?
