I'm getting used to the GT and love the amp for fat singing lead tone. I tried an old 5751 in V1 and was pleasantly surprised. The 5751 in V1 has less gain, smoother breakup and overall the attack is less aggressive. I also tried an Ay7 but preferred the 5751. I'm not sure of the brand or age but it really sounds nice. Anyone else try different V1 or V2 tubes? BTW: The JJ ECC83s that came with the amp is a fine tube and sounds great, much hotter than the 5751.

Is the breakup point still around 9 o clock with the 5751 Drew or does it need to be dialed a little higher before it starts to scream?

hey George, It'll still rocks hard at 9:00 with the 5751 in V1 but it's just smoother and not as much gain. The gain and volume come quick and at 9:00 it's still capable of rocking like a hurricane. Roll down the guitar volume and it cleans up nicely yet retains the ability to break up using your pick attack. Turn it up to noon and whoo baby... It's super fat and sings with nice musical quality. I run the volume around 11:00. It's my lead amp/channel and I go back to the ray for cleans. It's still new to me and I've only had it on two gigs, one only lasted a set before we were flooded out. Check with me in a bit and i'll have much better info to share.

one only lasted a set before we were flooded out. Flooded out? Yikes! Be careful Drew. Thanks Bill, it sounds more dramatic than it was. Some wingnut kicked off a water line from the back of toilet in the mens room which quickly flooded the club. The bar had to shut off the water main, it's an old historic building. Because they could not sell drinks or food without water they had to close the bar down. One jerk is all it takes to sour an evening. The lady patrons enjoyed the host of young firemen that came in for the cleanup effort. I love your avatar however I noticed your stacked blonde has a nasty blackhead. My wife is an esthician and can remove that blackhead for you... since you're a good guy it would be no charge! let me know when you'd like to schedule that extraction.
