Fellow MAZ enthusiasts: I took the liberty of taking the tone file that's been circulating and updating it with tone suggestions from various posts here in the MAZ 18 section of Z Talk. I tried to capture what posters indicated about guitar choice, speakers, etc. in addition to where the knobs are set. Hope you all find this helpful. Send along any corrections, amendments, etc. (Sorry for the long URL.) Mike (doctorice) mysite.verizon.net/vze1rwcu/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/maz18_settings9.htm7-21-10: added a pdf version as an attachment. It doesn't have the scrolling, but is should be helpful if you want to print out the settings. It's in a post I just added at the bottom of this thread. 9-06-10: newer pdf versions are in some of my subsequent posts. UPDATE (added 6/30/2013): The current version is from Jan. 2013. If you want a copy, send me a private message (PM) with your email address. The link above is outdated and files cannot be attached to posts. CURRENT VERSION is dated 9/26/13.

Great Job Mike !!!! Did you do that on a speadsheet? Yes. Did it in Excel, then saved as HTML. It will be a lot easier for me to maintain as an Excel file. Spreadsheets I know my way around, HTML I'm just learning. All: Thanks for the kind words.

doctorice,
Here's a new one I've been using lately. I rewired my pedal board, changed a pedal or two and put fresh tubes in my Jr. This setting seems very neutral as I change guitars.
pre- 11 T- 1 m- 9 b- 10 cut- 12 rev- n/a
Didn't see this setting on your spreadsheet, thought you may want to add it.
Peace, tk

toneking,
Happy to add those settings. How about a name for the setting? Anything come to mind? "Nice and neutral" perhaps.
You didn't mention a master v setting, so I assume it's "to taste" or "to suit." It can stay blank, of course.

This setting is very close to my topboost AC30. How about calling it Top Boost. The master is usually between 1-3, depends on the room and how much I need to come through.

I uploaded the revised file; the link I originally posted should still work. I'm going to try to make some improvements in the appearance over time.

Another setting added. In another post, Don was raving about hitting the sweet spot, which Brent dialed in for him at Z Fest. Brent supplied what he thought that was, and it's now on the list.
BIG THANKS to twoscoobysnacks (ben) for upgrading the HTML.
Link in my original post should get you to the latest version.

I absolutely love this amp! Ty Doctorice for more variations!
Is it possible to get both pages of tonal references incorperated into one page and stickied to the top of the MazJr section?

Is it possible to get both pages of tonal references incorperated into one page and stickied to the top of the MazJr section? Not sure what you mean by "both pages." If you're referring to the tone sheet that has "a42" in the URL, then I've already got that. It was my starting point, and I added to it. If you mean something else, let me know. I'm certainly open to ideas. As far as pinning it up at the top, that's up to the moderators. I suppose if enough of us request it..... Also, the current version with the scrolling shows up differently on some browsers. For example, on older versions of Firefox and Safari, the column headers scroll off screen. On later versions of Internet Explorer, the headers are frozen, so you can see the column labels even when down near the bottom of the file.

Testing the attachment option as an alternative to the URL. This seems to be easier for me as a way to post updates than getting the changed file associated with the original URL. This also should make it straightforward if you want your own copy to print or to modify.
What's new? I added the initial settings used by gearmanndude in his very nice demo of the MAZ 18 using a Gibson SG.

Well, let me jump on this bandwagon. Here is the current setting that I'm using. How about we call it "Tele Explosion". LOL

How about we call it "Tele Explosion" No problem, although I hope you mean explosion of sonic goodness, not an exploding guitar or amp ;D Before I update the HTML does anyone else want to add some settings? I think if I keep updating and modifying, this thread will keep bubbling up to the top of the postings, so it should be easy to find.

Awesome list. Definitely a good place to start and adjust slightly from there. Saves alot of time and takes much of the guesswork out of it.

There is one part of the equation missing for me with this chart and thats the speaker and cab situation as I noticed when looking at some of the settings how high some of the bass settings are .With the cabs I use I cant have the bass to high the sound just goes to mush. Its a shame that the speakers/cabs could'nt have been included in the chart as it has a very inportant part to play in the final tone created.

Our experiences are quite different then! I run the bass control on my Jr dimed, and I have not experienced any mushiness at all here, through any of the Z cabs I have.

Ive gotta keep mine on about 7 or 8 or it gets to fuzzy sounding when Im using the neck pickup especially when the Master is on full. Its a suhr V60 Lp pickup I have in the neck .I use Buddy Whittingham's method with the bass set completely off and turn in until it rounds the sound out. the open back 1x12 I used to use was quite small so I had the bass around 11 oclock but since I made the 1x12 based on the dimentions of the z 1x12 the bass has gone down to 7 or 8,much fuller sounding cab Im currently using a wizard in the 1x12 which I replaced instead of the G12H-30 which I needed for my 2x12 to accompany a Gold

Steve.......I Dimed the master, Bass ,Mid and treble this afternoon at a local gig and now this is my favourite setting .It sounded clearer and fuller than the setting I used before .I cant quite get my head round the reason why this works so well,as I used to have the mid and treb around the eleven oclock mark and could'nt have the bass very high as the Bottom E string sounded undifined but now it sounds amazing .

I'll try to put them in the Notes field, but most times I don't have the details on speaker/cab. Agree that it will have an effect, just as different guitars do.
