Hi, Does anyone have any experience using a 2x10 cab with the Route 66?
I have been using a 2x12 and of course the amp sounds great. It's just heavy to move around. I can't seem to find a 2x10 to try it with, so before I order one, I could use some opinions.
Oh yea, playing mostly blues/rock classic rock, etc. using a Les Paul.
Thanks, Eddie....

I just received a 2x10 Jenkins cab with celestion g10s-50's in it. I ran my Route 66 through it to test it out and it sounded great to me. I was using a Tele and a strat. With these speakers the volume was lower than run through a 2x12 loaded with a greenback/g12h30 and seemed a bit cleaner/spanky. I do not have a humbucker equipped guitar right now so I can't test that out. I'm trading my RT66 this weekend for a Z28. I bought the 2x10 to run the Z28 through. I think a 2x10 will definitely change your tone, you may like it. It would definitely be lighter to carry around. I'd suggest trying one out before you buy or just buy something used that you can turn around and not loose money if you decide you don't like it.

Yes, I bought the Z 2x10 when I bought my 66 new in 2003. It is killer of course, I use it all the time. Great balance with my Les Paul.
Recently I've taken to using the 210 cab in parallel with a K120 JBL in a semi openbacked Tru Tone cab....my current favorite with a Les Paul. I can actually use it without the hotplate if I roll off the tone controls a little...gotta be careful

I sometimes use a Jenkins 2x10 cab with my Ghia or 66. It's smaller, lighter, and more appropriate for small bar venues. My other choice is a 2x12 Z-Best, which seems like too much cab for the small places. I've tried a bunch of speakers in the 2x10, currently have a Weber P10RT and C10Q in there. The 10's have a quicker response, something I like. I don't get the HUGE low end that I get with the Z-Best, but that's cool.

I used to lug my Z Best around with the 66, but like you mention, it is more cab/volume than I need, so I got a 1 x 12 closed back cab, put a Celestion Blue in it and couldn't be happier. For the small clubs I play, it's plenty volume-wise and the sound is all I could ask for. Never tried any 10's with the 66, though.
