The Rt.66 is back to life with a fresh set of Saratov KT66s. I didn't bias the amp at all...just threw the matched set in there and listened to what it sounded like. HEAVEN!!
Last week I tried an Orange AD30 as a loaner while my Rt66 awaited the new tubes. The Orange sounded nice..but was definitely missing something.
Having the '66 back tonight made me realize one more time the range of this amp. Though it is voiced "thick", there is still plenty of treble there and I can coax some chimey rhythm Tele tones from this beast. Very cool.
Perhaps the best testament of the night...another guitar player in the crowd -- plays modern rock with triple-rectos and such -- really went ape over my Tele+Rt66 setup. Said it was a great blues tone with clarity and such, bla bla. The band too was glad to see my regular amp again...even they noticed the difference. The mojo of the Rt66 cannot be denied.

My 66 did awesome all weekend as well.
I played a festival last night and I had about 6 different guitar players wanting to know what my amp was. They loved the way it sounded.
I've played a couple of Oranges lateoly and can't stand them. The AD30 is a good amp but the one that made me laugh was the Rocker 50. I can't believe people going crazy over those things.

I almost bought an Orange AD30. It's definitely my second choice. I love the dark, unique tone of the Orange. The Rocker is WAY too modern. It's clear they're trying to get into the hard rock/metal market. The AD is godly though in my opinion.

The AD30 I tried was the 2-channel head. I think it has nice rock n roll rhythm tones in it, but I had trouble dialing in lead tones that I liked. Could be the Class A operation not jiving with my peds...the Barber LTD sounded best. Definition in the mids actually seemed tough to hear at the band's volume level.
My bandmates, especially the drummer, were especially glad I had the Rt66 back.
