I'm thinking of altering tone a little bit by changing out one or both of my 12's in the Avatar cab. Right now I have a Weber Blue 30 ceramic and a G12H30. I think this combo produces a smooth tone with very pleasing eq and the Blue seems to give it up fairly early.
If I were to change the Blue out to a Greenback -- or put two Greenbacks in the cab, am I looking at a loss of headroom? I have always heard about the classic tones of the Greens, but have never used them. Would I hear a different eq response from them as well?

My fave is the H30/V30 combo. Not sure how a Weber blue sounds, but the H30/GB combo is cool, and many people like it.

My Avatar came stocked with the H30 and Vintage 30...boy, I just couldn't get with the V30. I heard a nasally tone there that I didn't like. The Blue has been nice and alot smoother, plus it has a pleasing "give" when volume is pushed.
Would the GB lend a brighter tone?

Green is warmer and woodier than both. The H30 will over power it a touch, but I like this combination a lot. I use the Greens/G12H30s in my 4x12 cab in an x pattern Very nice full sound.

So do you think greenbacks are a good choice for someone looking to decrease headroom? i.e. someone looking for breakup earlier at lower volumes? The cab I have coming has to celestion blues. I've heard these are heavenly but do they tend to be brighter with more headroom?

I find the blues to be far more interesting to listen to than GB's. It seems that sonically they have many things going on simultaneously... all of which are cool !When I first got my Z's best, it was still in the box un-opened. When i got it home and tried it , I was completely dissapointed , come to find out it was loaded w/ a GB and an H30. I guess for my tastes that just won't do ! I own an Avatar w/ a V30/H30 set up ,which is awesome and made the GB/H30 Z - sound like it was covered w/ Grandma's quilt !
I returned the Z's Best and swapped it for the same, but loaded w/ V30/H30 and have been tonally blissed out since! Bear in mind that spkr. tonality is absolutely preferential. If you like it ... then it's good ! For you anyway!
