Just wondering if anyone has any preferred tubes or recommendations for the Galaxie as I am currently considering re-tubing - V1 thru V6. Any thoughts/ideas/input is muchly appreciated as I will be playin' out later this month and would like to have the Gal in tip-top shape ;D cheers always, eh Joel

I like the EH rect. and the GT GE6l6's which are the stock tubes, but I changed V1-ECC83S; V2-3 with JJ ECC803's matched. Love it!

Joel I swapped 12ax7 from my Galaxie and put in the 5751 from the Z-28. It seems to clean up the amp a bit. Enough to notice.
Cheers, Richard

If you're considering any NOS stuff, at least do the rectifier. You should rebias afterwards, but it's still worth the reliability and consistency. IMO, of course. Mine came with the GT 6l6GE's and I really like them. Pricey, but they do sound good. Myles may have some good recommendations for you. I also agree with richarddj6 on the 5751- it tames down both sides well. Oh, and make sure you're V3 (phase inverter) is balanced. I'm sure you know this, but just making sure.
I personally prefer NOS stuff, but if it's properly tested, new production will work well too. Good testing from a reliable source is the main thing. But, if you can afford to spend the dough, NOS can make a really good amp a great one, again just my .02.
Best of luck Joel!!

I have JJ's in the power and rectifier slots, and have been trying some different one's in the V1, V2, and P/I. The P/I must be balanced, and the V1 as clean as you can get. Tung-Sol new production, JJ 803's and 5751 all work good in the V1. I have been running a Mullard in the V2, and it is very dirty from every setting. This amp is a little hairy to me. I think I need the Jaz 20/40!

Just ordered some new JJs for V1-V3.
A set of ECC83S', a set of high gain ECC83S', and an ECC803S.
I'll be experimenting!

Tell me more about those 6l6wgb's T-Rock. How much better are they than say GT 6l6GE's? What kind of differences are there, tone wise? Earlier breakup? What did you bias them at? I'm itching to pick me up a set but I just wanna make sure.

Mine(#3) came with the GT's. The WGB's tame things down a bit, and give me a little more of that sweet tweedy goodness.
Curt gave me the tubes, and did the bias. I really don't have a clue what the numbers are on that. Killer 6L6's tho, man. And I'm a 6L6 freak.

FWIW Tony's Galazie is soooooo sweet sounding.
I like it even better than his Remedy...and i LOVE the Remedy.
I have owned two Galaxie's and a Tweed Super Clone and T's slay's'em all.

Thanks for the info Tony! I think I just may have pick up a set of 'em.
Hey Curt, you don't happen to remember whatcha bias'ed those 6L6's at do ya? I figure you'd set them a little cooler than you would with the GT 6L6's, right?

Any 6L6 type seems to sound best to me in any amp @ 28 to 32 mA.

Hey all!
Loved the sound of my Gal 210 but wanted to sweeten & tame it a bit. Tried an RCA 5751 Jan tube in V1 and Wow!. Me like! Also tried a couple Mesa 6L6's instead of the GT's and I think it sounds fuller. Thanks to Joel & Richard for the recommends in earlier posts. The Kcanostubes.com site was a good source. Looking forward to Z-fest. I'm in Cincinnati so not too far of a drive.
Thanks,
Roger
