im thinking of buying a mini z but concerned the tone will suck if i am diming the amp and then using a delay in the front end.. or do i need a maz 18 that has a loop? . i am not gigging at the moment..home use only..i basically want a killer rock tone at LOW VOLUME.

My experiences say delay through the front of a cranked amp= distorted delays. The same amp at low volumes, with an OD pedal, can sound great. But, the Mini can do delay, but at lower volumes. I've been using mine with a 16ohm V30, it's dark, the impedence is wrong, and the speaker has too high of a wattage rating. If I use my T-Rex with that set-up, it's as if I have hardly any delay happening. Mini through the 8ohm Blue is great, better with the delay, but only at clean volumes. It's hard to get a great rock tone at low volumes, if you get a larger amp and an Air Brake, and one with a Master Volume, you have lots of options. I find that the Ghia, at low volumes, with the AB and OD pedals allow me to get great rock tone, and allows for delay. But, that's not a Power Tube distortion sound. So, the Mini is loud, but can be cranked at home, using the attunuator, but it will still wake the baby. I'm on the fence about selling my Mini Z head, it's a great little amp, but my Ghia and Mazerati are enough.

Mini cranked with a delay is really nice. Opens the amp up and gives it just a bit bigger sound. I run mine both through the original 8 inch and a an external 12 and both sound great. If you did the Maz Jr which I have as well you will need a OD and a brake-lite for playing at home. Way bigger sound but also a lot more amp. Hope this helps.
