It seems I just can't win with outboard reverb units. Had a fender 63 RI and twice the output transformer went. With the Zverb I have had random things happen at gigs where I'd have half power. Then the next gig it would be fine. Now playing in my music studio it completely seems to have died. The tubes are glowing but I have almost no power. Yes I've cleaned the jacks I wish this thing would be as reliable as the rest of my Z gear.

I've tried reseating the 6V6. I don't have another one here to swap it out. I swapped out the 12Ax7. I switched out the 6201 for a Jan Phillips 12AT7 I have but made no difference. Each time I turned it back on after swapping the tubes, I'd get a little but of guitar sound for a couple seconds at low volume then nothing.

Each time I turn it on there is an awful lot of noise and crackling. I just put the original tubes back in and it made a lot of noise and then the volume came back almost full power. The volume is fading in and out from almost no power to almost full power makijng a lot of noise. I already checked all cables with out the zverb and they are all fine.

I took it all apart and took the electronics out. contact cleaned everything inside. when I put it back together I made sure to tighten the top screws as much as possible. When I plugged it back in it was better. Almost back to normal. But plugged in with the zverb is much thinner sounding and volume a little quieter than with out the zverb. So something is terribly wrong here. Every once in a while you can hear the volume coming back then it drops a bit again. If any one has any ideas I'd really appreciate hearing it.

I think I found something critical out. If I have the mix knob off (which I did when I put it back together) I have almost full power. As soon as I turn the mix volume up even a bit I lose almost all power.

False alarm. It seems it was a cable after all. Very strange as I had tested each cable separately and they tested fine. But then I looked at them more closely and it seemed that the 6' cable going from zverb to amp was faulty. When I tested from guitar to amp direct I didn't have volume loss but I noticed if I moved it a bit it made some noise. Then I noticed it buzzed a little. When I touched my hand to the end as it was plugged in to my guitar the buzz immediately stopped. So I hooked my whole rig up and replaced the 6' cable with another and the problem seems to be solved.

That's nice to hear. Cables are cheaper than some repair bills. Glad to hear you figured it out, even though you had to take it apart, and have problems at gigs.

Might wanna change the title of the thread to "Cables Unreliable".

Easy to overlook the obvious sometimes! Glad it's as it should be.

Yeah sorry about that. But I've had small issues in the past with my Zverb that had these exact symptoms. I had just replaced all cables with Evidence Audio from Lavacable. The funny thing is when I first tested all cables separately from guitar to amp they seemed fine. And it seemed when the whole rig was connected and I turned the mix knob on the Zverb down to 0 the power came back. And when I turned the mix knob up even a little the power dropped to almost nothing. With that and similarsymptoms to problems I had in the past that were directly related to the zverb it seemed that was where the problem was. A second closer test of the cables revealed that the 6' cable going from zverb to amp was defective. When I plugged it in from guitar to amp it seemed fine. But upon moving it around there was some noise. Also there was a buzz. Wen I touched my hand to the cable end at the guitar jack, the buzz would go away. So I figure the end is bad or possibly wasn't soldered very well. Mark from Lavacables is sending me out a new one.
