What's the difference between Pre & Post volume vs. Volume & Master volume?

you said it right....The pre can give you more break-up at lower volume. It depends how loud your plating, and how clean or distorted you like it. Higher Pre levels= dirtier tones.

I didn't know the EZG had a "master volume." Interesting.

I didn't know the EZG had a "master volume." Interesting. I don't know if it is technically a "master" volume or not, but it performs as such very well. I am able to really get some nice bedroom levels tones.

I choose to get all of my dirt from my Pedals and run the EZG/KT both real clean. That being said..I still dime the Pre Control. To my ears the amp reacts best to the pedals this way. I use the post as the "Ear level" set. I dont have to turn it very much at all to compete in a live band situation. My point for chiming in was that with these settings The EZG is still clean even with the Pre dimed. It does break up like Frankie mentioned, but for that to happen it is loud. Not like, "Oh, that's a little loud"...more like, "Who's gonna pay for my new windows?" loud. My post doesnt get far above that "amp just starting to make noise" setting and I cut through just fine.

I have to agree with Jericho on this one. The EZG really doesn't break up much with the pre/post. If messing with different pre/post settings will give the amp a different feel. you have to really have both the pre and the post cranked up before it will break up much. It will be very loud. For all practical purposes think of the EZG as a clean amp. You will need some pedals if you want dirt. Or an airbrake.

I'm still on the fence about the airbrake, as when I had it turned pretty loud, enough to keep up with a 100 watt Mesa, it did have a little dirt, but not too much. And I play exclusively with humbuckers. (for now) I still think that with the airbrake, it's still going to be really loud before dirt.(BD)

I have also found that for My Fender Strats the amp sounds and feels best with the Pre dimed.

I've found having the pre right up ( about 3 o'clock) and bringing up the post to 8 o'clock ,at least, gives you a full sound at lower volumes. That said, it's nice to have the amp opened up which seems to start to happen when both are at about 11 o'clock like any decent tube amp. It's different from a Marshall jcm 800 where turning the preamp right up and the master just on gives you that annoying buzzing bees sound as opposed to good old cranked plexi, yielding power tube distortion. The EZG 50 will actually give you good sound with the pre cranked and post up a little ( dead clean still, but full) and will sound different but equally pleasing with both the pre and post cranked. I like to run mine with both pre and post up so that the levels on my pedals don't drastically effect the overall volume if accidentally knocked. I attenuate with the airbrake.

I run mine with the pre and post both at around 11 am with a PowerStation attenuator to keep from going deaf. I've tried a number of different options....The pre at 3 pm and the post at 9 am, post much higher than the pre, pre much higher than the post, etc... But I seem to have ended up at 11 am for both for a nice edge of breakup tone with my strat. From there I push it with pedals. It is an awesome amp.

I could well be on the other side of the planet but I agree on all your points. I have been using the amp exactly the same as you. Just our attenuators differ.
