I traded my Z28 for a KT45, and although I've only had a few minutes to mess with it, I'm impressed. Great clean tone with humbuckers - very full. I'm digging this amp! I ran it through my Mesa 1x12 3/4 closed back cab. I almost traded that cab away. Glad I kept it!
My #1 has been my Remedy, but the KT45 is a close second. Thanks for making such a great amp, Doc!

I just finished retubing the amp today with an NOS 5AR4, Winged C EL34's, a balanced triode 12AX7, and a Valvo EF86. Wow. Can't wait for band practice next week!

I've just ordered a Z 4x10 for my KT. Tried it at my dealer and it sounded amazing! I've retubed my KT with a NOS Mullard EF86 and a NOS Tube rectifier in place of the SS rectifier. Awesome amp.

Darkside, how has the tone changed since the tube swap? Tube rec? Im afraid of losing the quick response and how tight it is with the SS.

Before I got mine I tested two identical KT-45's at Doc's shop- one with a SS recto and one tube. The tube rectified one is still quick and tight- probably quick and tight enough for 95% of players. I wanted that ultra tight SRV low end whack that only a SS recto can provide.

I love the distortion and compression it produces above 2pm with the GZ34. Very unique sounding amp. The best amp ever made or dreamed about.

I tried both tube and SS rectifiers. Currently have the SS in mine, but I think I am going to switch back the the 5AR4. Like Phil says, the SS can give you that super tight SRV low end, but the tube gives you a hair more compression and overdrive. I really like both, just a matter of personal preference.

Sounds like the tube rec is not that noticable to your sound? I just bought an airbrake from oldguy here on the forum should be here tomorrow. cant wait to really open it up cuz right now its crazy loud at 9 0'clock...And probably a z-best cuz I want to hear the difference from my 2x10 open back.

As already said above the tube rec lowers the output by a few watts, allows a bit earlier overdrive. Still tight and focused though, perfect for my Pink Floyd set. It's still hellishly loud though by the time the overdrive is cooking! I'm looking forward to trying it in anger through the Z 4x10 I've just ordered! ;D

Just got back after my first band practice with the KT, and it was nothing short of outstanding. The guys love my Remedy, but the KT held it's own with ease. Sounded great with pedals, too.
Why doesn't this amp get a bit more love around here?

Agreed. But I'm torn on that. I would love for the KT to get the respect it deserves... But I also like having one of the coolest amps that no one knows of. Kind of like when you catch a small unknown band that you get really into. You almost dont want them to get popular sometimes...like its your own little secret

I hear that, Jericho.
I think some must be put off by the power, but if the Doc put a half-power switch on the KT the masses would flock to this amp.

It's funny you guys talk about the "secret" element. My buddies guitarist bought one before I'd even received mine based on our excitement. He'd never heard of them, and I was pretty unfamiliar with the Z line. Now a couple other players in town are interested in them after a couple live shows. Said buddies guitarist is suffering from reality (honest amplifier syndrome) as he was using a modeling amp or a fender hot rod type jobby with an OD. Not sure he's stoked on the amp, but, he was given several compliments in his tonal improvement. I'll go out and suck it up next time I play out, in an attempt to chase off any "rig lookers" and protect the secret -w
