Hey All out there in Z-Land - Thought I'd show off a new creation, kind of a 'Z' mutt. I've had a Mini Z head for a few months now and I'm still blown away by the tone of that lil'thing. Played it through a 1X8 cab and a 2X8 both of which I built. Recently got a 1X12 with a Greenback in it...bigger n' badder. But carryin' two pieces o' gear for small jams is too much work. I knew a combo was the ticket. This is for playing lower volume gigs anyway - one guitar/chord/amp is the way I like it... So, I just found a Carmen Ghia 2X10 combo on the 'Bay that was local (to me) and it turns out to be a guy I've jammed with a couple of times. He gave me a smokin' deal on the CG so I couldn't pass it up...and I knew that these chassis' were swap'able (swappable?). I dig the CG, still gettin' in to it and haven't cranked with a band yet but I've matched it with the greenback cab and it's huge (got a Brake Lite in the cab too, just in case). Thing about the CG combo though is it's pretty heavy. I'm definitely at the point where lighter is better, as long as the tone don't suffer too much. So I did some cuttin' and mixin' n' matching and here it its...34 lbs of tonal bliss in one neatly bundled package. Same weight as a Princeton...it's the perfect height to sit on...2x8 combo with a built in attenuator. And now I've got a Ghia head to boot!    P.S. - Got to thank BW for showin' me the Z way and the Doc for makin' such great amps! And a big thanks to all on this forum for all of the great info/banter! Cheers! <insert beer clank here!> ;D

I dig it Bluzman! Yer pic gave me the light bulb that this could be done...I really like the two 8's myself (Web Sig's per Doc's OG Mini) but a C-Blue will be the next investigative step for sure...maybe I'll add that as an extension cab...I could get crazy about this!!
Thanks for the idea!
Robert

Curious, did you use 2-8's in lieu of the 10's that were already in the CG cab for weight reduction or to keep the db's down a bit? I assume buying empty cabinets from the Dr. is not an option? Nice looking git-fiddle; '62 RI or homebrew? Thanks for sharing!

I did go with the 8's for weight...not so much for the dB factor. And, I like to sound of the 8's with the Mini better than I did with the 10's. I originally used just one 8" in an ext. cab the size of a Z convertible and it sounded great...very much like the Champ of "Champs". Two moves a little more air...
Empty cabs are an option - check the 'Brent's Scratch N Dent' section.
80's (I think) 62 RI with SCN's stuck in it...great guitar and it just sings with either the Mini or CG.

Sweet set up!!!! Does this count as a 2x8 combo? What speakers do you have in those and which one do you like better?

One is the original weber special, the other is an alnico blue pup, I really like the blue pup, but the other one sounds great also. I guess it's really a toss up. But the do sound great together.

Lonny Sorry to beat a dead horse into the ground but what would you say is the difference between the 2. I am asking because I have been thinking about either building a cab for my combo that would hold a 10 or changing out the 8. Thanks, Rik

A little more upper mids.
