Hi all - just rec'd a new Z-verb and I have a couple of questions. I've never had a stand alone reverb before - is it meant to stack on the head? When I try this I get some wicked hum, so I'm thinking the answer is no. I know, lame question... Second - I'm getting the "whooshing" that's normally associated with a bad/noisy preamp tube in the first position- replaced both the 12AX7/12AT7 - no change - went to replace the 6V6 and noticed a missing pin - guessing this is normal, but is this tube a variant of the standard 6V6? Can I not pop a "normal" 6V6 in its place? thanks for your help! strictly

No stacking, your putting the Z-Verbs electronics on top of working transformers, lots of stray EMF.
That is a 6V6 , JJ just doesn't insert a pin in unused position like other manuf.

Thanks Doc.
The Verb, Rt 66 and 1x12 just rec'd from you (Stu@Fatsound) are typically great by the way - and no worries on the verb.

I'm wondering if that is why I'm getting issues. I am not stacking it directly on top but I have built a stand that places the Zverb over my Stangray head. Its probably about 3 or 4 inches directly above the Stangray head. Should I not do this?

Spring reverb acts like an antenna picks up ALL noises and RF/EMF interference.
No it's not a good idea to hover it on top of any tube amp.
Do what D!ck Dale does, hang it from a rope in the middle of the stage.

That explains why I was getting noise from my Z-verb. Had in on top of my Maz, but when I had my KT45 on top of my Maz (switched off) and the Z-verb on top of the KT it was quiet.

will stacking to zverb on my rxjr damage the zverb or rxjr in any way?? or is it basically harmless and just gives off noise?. Ive had mine stacked on the rxjr for a little over a month now with no problems and no noise issues whatsoever???

It won't damage it. I have to keep mine about 2 feet from the heads I've tried it with. It's great that you have no issues with buzzing with it so close.

Mine's ok on my Combo...never tried it on top a head but all my heads have transformers down like a combo. I'm sure the chassis helps with shielding.

Well hey guess I'm not the only one Once I moved it away from the head it was quiet, although I still have a noisy preamp tube to replace. strictly

I get no noise from my Z-verb, which is currently ontop of my Blackheart head, it's a 3-5 watt amp, don't know if power matters. Either way, no noise.
