We're recording a little EP and I'm used to using an OCD for some grit. For grins I decided just to patch straight into the amp using a 10' fultone cable and a Les Paul with PRails.
Turned both the pre and post nobs on the amp to 5/7's each. Turned the treble right off, mids to max, bass almost off. WHAM. Rich warm dirty tone that's full of control. We stuck a Royer 121 and a Sennheiser 421 on the cab through some Neve 1073 pre's and blended them together...... pure yummy!
Sure this amp can do clean, but wow can it ever do dirty too!

I'm with you. I've read many posts about how well it does cleans, but I get some very nasty dirt out of mine. I too use p-rails in a warmoth built les paul and have a ultimate attenuator on the EZG to keep to levels low. Very wicked tone set up like that.

An incredible combination- the EZG-50 pre- 2 o'clock, post- 12 o'clock and a Galaxie Ch. 2 2 o'clock. Wow!!!
Fender-ish goodness with so much grit and dirt and it remains TOUCH RESPONSIVE! That is why I prefer power tube saturation to pedal distortion- touch responsiveness and dynamics. If you play softer with this setup, the amps can be fairly clean. If you hit it hard, it rips your head off with drive. Fun.

;D I have only had my EZG up there in volume once...it was magical and moving, I had to turn the bass almost all the way off as pictures were rattling off the walls! Sounded sweet though.
