If you can only say yes to 5 watts and are looking for more of a Marshall voicing you might check into the "Bumbox" head.

cut-n-paste lurvin' from his website:
"To all of my faithful customers and supporters: I accepted a position in the Biomedical world on Tuesday, May 15 and will start at the end of the month. The future of Bümbox is up in the air right now as I won't have time for family, work, and the amp/repair schedule that I have kept for the past 2.5 years."
out of luck there also, it seems.....

Sorry to hear that 5150. Actually congratulations on your new position. What I meant to say is I'm sorry to hear that from my wanting one of your heads in the next few months. Almost placed an order a week an a half ago but had a major unexpected expense so had to put it off. Again, I'm happy for you and your family.

I'm really glad I have one as with the unfortunate circumstances leading to their suspended production, my guess is there isn't much chance it will ever come back. It'd be interesting to know how many were made.

I have been thinking about bringing the Mini back.
My feeling is to do it as I see E-Bay Mini's selling for list price, that my friends is a good indication.
I just need my friend Ted Weber to reinforce the little 8 " speaker so it will hold up better to the wave of Tone from the Mini.

unfortunate circumstances....? sorry all, i am a newbie to Dr. Z and the world of guitar in general. and i hope that it does come back, with a weber or some other noise maker in it, as it was what inspired me to get started in the first place. my non-jaded ears will tell you, there is something "there" in the mini design, and it must be out where we newbies/poor/students/rocking chair idols can get to it and make lots of ugly/beautiful/semi-loud/quiet/thoughtful/gnarly noises at all hours.
;-)
and thanks for posting DrZ, just shows as much class as i thought you should have.

I've been gassing for a Mini since the production was halted, and I need eight of them to make the ultimate Mini rig.

Nice!! I believe the Mini has the most demand out of the suspended production amps, particularly because it's the smallest Z. If Ted Weber does make a new 8 incher I'll buy one because I want to get a different flavor than the alnico Weber that's in it now.

I sold mine to partially finance a Maz Jr, but I'd to be able to replace it now that I've got my "louder" needs covered.
Just sayin', Doc! :-)
Or, after reading the thread about what Z you'd like to see, - a single ended big bottle combo with a 10 or 12...

I KNOW that I would buy another Mini in a heartbeat. All I need is for Z to ramp up production on that littler terror..

Ditto every post here for finding the means to re-issue the Mini. What a hopeful thread. Thanks, Doc.

That amp on craig's list in Chicago is on it's way to me. I bought it off another forum. It's my first Z, so I'm quite excited pending it's arrival. Sorry guys, you'll have to find another one

Nice one, jdscpa! You really know how to make an entrance! That ranks up there with the best first posts I've seen here on the Z forum. Welcome! Let us know how you like it.

To be honest I would be interested in a mini but not as a combo but as a head...just a thought...I think it would be cool that way... What do you guys think?

Yup, I'm on board with it just being a head. I'd love to see a version that has the tone controls of the Ray and a loop. 5 watts of Heaven!

no disrespect jwr, but nope.....as a head it would need to be just what it was. lower price to reflect the simpler design/no transducers, and simple but elegent cosmetics. would be something i would get, if the combo was never to be made again.

Well, no disrespect taken. But, I think some of us would like to see a more elegant, low powered amp that could just be turned up to 10 and not be too loud. Yet have some of the same tone tools that the bigger amps have. 18 watts cranked is really too loud for most people to turn up even half way, which is when the tubes are really working. The 5-10 watt market seems to be getting bigger and it would be nice to see a more flexable version of the Mini. For me that would be an amazing tone tool through a Z-Best.

If & when Z puts the Mini back into production I would really like to see both speaker taps available. That way we can use either the internal 4ohm speaker or we can use an 8ohm extension cab. Now THAT would be killer!

I would like to see a mini with 10' speaker. Kinda of like a MIDI. A 10" would handle anything you could throw at it for this power range. Yes, the overall dimensions would probably have to change, but this setup would get my attention.

I would like to see a head or a bigger speaker in the Mini. That 8" speaker just didn't do it for me. It sounded pretty nice with my 2X12 Blues cab, never did get to try it with a single 12. Or a Mini with a single 6V6 and a 12" speaker, that would really be something.

+1 for a head version of the mini. I'd buy one right away!

I'm one of the ones who slogged it out on eBay for a used Mini-Z. I got one in fantastic new-looking conditon.
I was hesitant about buying an amp with an 8" speaker. I bought it intending to use it with my Z-Best or other 2x12s. I must say I was shocked at how good an 8" speaker can sound. Sometimes I use the amp alone, sometimes with another cab.
One cool thing about the 8" speaker is how small the amp stays. If you made it into a head, you couldn't take more than 6" off the height. And even with the speaker, this combo is lighter than any of my other heads and as portable. If you put a 10" or 12" speaker in it, you'd need to make the cabinet bigger and it wouldn't be as portable as a head.
So yeah, if I had designed it I'd probably have made it a 1x12, but now that I've played with it I think the Doc did it right. That's why he's a genius amp designer and I'm just a guy who smiles when I fire up my Z's. ;-)

I too am suprized at how well voiced the 8" and cab are. The little beast gets a pretty cool bottom end happening. I actually gigged it once with the Z best and prefered it just on it's own. Had lottsa cut. But I don't have the 8ohm tap so it was 4 ohms running into an 8 ohm cab, don't know if that would make a difference. But I think now that the mini head is coming out I'm gonna go ahead and get that 8ohm tap installed so I can run it into my cabs as well. Been rehearsing in a classic rock band and it's so great to just rock up to rehearsals with the mini. Great tone and not too loud (yet plenty loud for rehearsals in a house!) Very cool little amp. I am an unashamed head and cab guy but I think this is one amp I would prefer as the combo!
