I just got a dual head and 4 space rack case for my Mazerati and my Orange Rocker 30. I ordered it from Tim Marsh at X-Case and it's amazing. I did notice that there's no space on the top of the Rati section for the top vent to breath. I didn't think to ask Tim to make one...I guess I just assumed he would know (stupid me). Anyway...my question is how important is the top vent. The back is well ventilated so I wouldn't think it would be a huge deal. But then again, I'm sure it's there for a reason...and I know these things run pretty hot. What do you guys think? BTW...I got to church on Sunday and realized I had left my Rati on (not even on standby) since thursday night! I'll probably need new tubes soon, but it sounded better than ever!

So, you could say it was warmed up for you on Sunday. It's a hot running amp. The combo version has no top vent, but of course it's open in the back. Might depend on how much air space is around it.

I'm no expert, but that looks fine to me. Unless you put that rig against a wall, your Mazerati will breath just fine. A top vent would have been putting alot of heat into that foam, so maybe you're better off without the top vent in that situation. Nice looking rig by the way.

Well the rati has a top vent, it's just covered up by the foam. hopefully the foam can handle it . Thanks...I'm excited to have it finished...although the orange will get the boot once I can afford a remedy!

The top vent is there because heat rises. (I know, duh ) That's why the Z combos have built in fans- because they don't have a top vent. I know Doc Z puts a lot of thought into the design of his amps/cabs to ensure that the amps and tubes stay within design specs. I'd be concerned about mounting the Mazerati into a case like that. If it were me I know what I'd do. I've got a Fluke infrared thermometer that I use for just such occasions. I'd let the amp warm up to full temperature and get a baseline reading. Then I'd install the amp in the rack and take another measurement in exactly the same fashion as the first. If the second reading was way higher I'd think twice about the rack mounting. I'd especially check on the thermal properties of that foam. ;D

Thanks for the heads up, Phil. Maybe I'll just install a small fan back there.

Thanks for the heads up, Phil. Maybe I'll just install a small fan back there. Be careful how you mount the fan. If you run the wires to power the fan too close to certain amp circuitry or mount the fan in a "bad" spot you'll have hum.

I know this a late response, but I definitely see the need for that top vent on the Mazerati. Mine puts out a lot of heat from those 4 bottles.
